I'm not terribly convinced by this week Confused

The aim is to keep outside pollutants outside of the house with the following methods:

  1. Have a no show policy inside the house - remove your shoes at the door and keep fluffy socks and slippers for guests (causing MNer friends and family members to start AIBU threads about you Grin)

  1. The "buffer zone" where you remove shoes should have flooring that is easy to clean, is resistant to moisture and doesn't collect dirt and dust.

  1. The buffer zone should have: a shoe scraper for mud and snow, an outdoor mat to wipe shoes on, an area rug that can be washed, a waterproof shoe mat or tray to collect water when it's raining, a bench/chair to sit on when removing shoes, an exhaust fan to ventilate and avoid mildew and mould (wtf?), hooks for coats, baskets for bags and an umbrella holder.

I'm going to use this week for something else personally!

Previous weeks to carry on with are drinking more water, getting routine activity, getting more sleep, keeping a food diary and taking a multivitamin.

Thanks Oddsocks

Outside pollutants Grin? Anyways easy one for me as we don't wear shoes through the house, mainly as it keeps the wooden floors cleaner and stops the dc tracking mud and what-not through the carpet upstairs. Would never ask guests to remove theirs though.

Think I'll concentrate on previous ones myself. Food and sleep are the main ones I have issues with so maybe just keep on with those. Sleep I'm slowly getting there but food not so much.

Hmmm we do take our shoes off in the hall but we don't have room for mud scrapers etc. They are just in pile!

ICJump · 06/02/2016 22:19

We would need to move house to do this weeks habit!

I propose for myself putting my shoes away when I take them off rather than leaving them in the middle of the lounge room to get trashed by the small children.

Crikey that's a bit of task.

We take our shoes off in the hall but I'd feel a bit awkward asking guests to remove shoes. We also live in a decrepit Victorian house so mould is a standard part of the decor!

Hey! I just bought a new mat to wipe shoes on. I'm done! Looks darn smart too. Chuffed.

OddSocksHighHeels · 06/02/2016 23:35

ICJ I thought that too Grin who has space for all that stuff?

Also agree with shirking that I'd feel weird about asking guests to remove shoes. And I just don't particularly care about outside pollutants. I wonder what people with cats and dogs are supposed to do as well.

Well done margaritas you're ahead already Grin

I think I'm going to remember to moisturise every day. That's a better task for me.

Hmm, I have a small but complete environment of biohazards that walks around the house anyway (aka The Toddler) so that would be a wasted effort I think!

Will have a think about what I shall put in its place.

DrDiva · 07/02/2016 08:27

Not in place of the toddler! I meant in place of this week's challenge.

Thank you oddsocks.
Is the idea to make us more mindful of the house entrance?
As it happens I have been googling hallway storage ideas. My handbag is always on the floor there and the shoes are...hmmmm.
Anyway, something to mull over :)
I'll continue with the water and vitamins, sleep and MFP, Physio exercises etc.

Actually we are having the hall decorated soon so I shall use this week to look at paint samples, lighting etc!

I'll be skipping this weeks to concentrate on cementing in the past few weeks ones I think!

We have a shoe rack pile of shoes by the front door on a separate mat, a metal shoescraper outside. But dd2 has a wheelchair/buggy that brings in mud/dirt, not enough room to leave it in our hallway, either.

I think I will still be concentrating on sleep: gradually upping my average hours; activity: restarting weights but continuing yoga; headspace: keeping up a regular/daily practice; vits, healthy eating etc.

We are a shoe free house anyway (as are most of our friends) but only because we all prefer to be shoeless. I don't insist people take their shoes off but most do
We have wood flooring or tiles downstairs but no shoe cleaning paraphernalia or storage. I sooo want a shoe cabinet but we are planning to move soon so I can't buy anything new for this house Sad
I'm just going to consolidate the previous weeks and get rid of this bloody cold

Just marking my place. We do have a shoes off policy and I tidied my hall this weekend. I'd like to make it a more welcoming environment for visitors that come to the door.

I tidied my hall today. Funny how I'm more enthused by this than positive thinking. Something wrong with me!

I'd like a week where I find places in my house for my many many pairs of shoes and commit to putting them there! Instead of under the sofa...Blush

Any ideas?

I feel your pain ICJump, my feet went up a size after Dd1. 10yrs later, and I feel I'm still building up my footwear collection Grin. That's my excuse, anyway.
