if LO gets a cold......

then sleep them propped up a wee bit, by propping up the mattress with a folded towel, use a nasal aspirator to get the nose degunked..go to the chemist if you can today and ask for saline nose drops, you can get these from 'care in the chemist' scheme...these help dry up the nose, so they can feed easier...

too young for snufflebabe etc...but you can sit in the bathroom with the hot taps running and the door closed and steam the LO ..hold her on your knee and let her breathe in the steam for few minutes.......

don;t think you can give calpol before 12 weeks....but i might be wrong...might be ok to have a 2.5 ml dose..but i woldn;t do that before checking with pharmacist

milk, cuddles and soothing......

HTH !

Obviously life is easier if you can stop your baby from getting a cold, but sometimes it is unavoidable. I think DD (8 weeks) has had a snuffly nose almost since birth because of contact with DS who brings home loads of colds from nursery. Are you breast feeding? if so you are hopefully passing on antibodies. I think the main concern is that if they are very snuffly it sometimes interferes with feeding. How young is your new born? If they are still under midwife care (can't remember how long this goes on for - 21 days?) you can call the midwife for advice.
