I have been perscribed this today for an ear infection. I am really worried about taking this as have not had it before. I have a really bad phobia of being sick and have just read the side effects.
I am not sure wh he did not give me amoxicillin .
Has anyone any experience with this anti biotic? Thanks

I took it for an ear infection recently, didn't have any problems or side effects. It's a more specific antibiotic where Amoxycillin is a broad spectrum one.
Although it's good to read the insert it will state everything upto and including death! Nowadays everything has to be spelt out in very fine detail to pre-empt possible litigation (when I had emergency surgery I remember the surgeon mentioning in the worse case it could mean amputation!)

I have to have it as I am allergic to penicillin and anything in that family, I have always been fine with it, only anti biotic that doesn't make me feel sick.

I'm on this at the moment for suspected pneumonia. I found it has had less side effects than the other 2 they have already tried me on.

They're big though!

Clarithromycin is more specific for respiratory tract infections inc ears/nose/throat than amoxicillin. Personally I've never found amoxycillin to work and have ended up having Clarithromycin or erythromycin afterwards!

My daughter is on this from November to March, she also has a phobia of vomiting but clarithromycin hasn't caused her any problems.

It often gives me an upset stomach. Or at least it feels upset but doesn't actually make me sick. Taking them with milk helps the unsettled feeling.

I've just finished a course of it. Even on a double dose (serious infection)it didn't make me sick.

I have managed to get my self really worked up about it. Massive tablets as well. When you say upset stomach giddy - do you mean feeling/ being sick or the other end?

I haven't taken it yet which I know is pathetic. Was going to go back to docs and ask them about amoxicillin.
I hate this stupid phobia so much

Ive just had it for whooping cough and seemed to have no side effects whatsoever. Never had it before, don't know if that makes any difference.

I had it for pneumonia as I am allergic to penicillin.

I was on a high dose (1000mg per day for 14 days) and the only side effect from it was a bad taste in my mouth. It was small fry compared to pneumonia and I took it in my stride. It was really fine and I am thankful and relieved I had it!

It's a sort of grumbling that isn't quite as much as nausea. But nothing ever happens. Honestly!

No sickness but my I can't stop eating - I have never known anything like this. I ate dinner then Was starving by 9 and then again at 11, 1, 3 am and finally fell asleep. Since breakfast and anothe tablet at 7:30, I had to eat as the hunger was really bad at 9, 11, had early lunch at 11:30 starving by 2 and again at 4.

I guess at least I haven't been sick but I may put on a lot of weight this week!
