I was always prone to it but it's flared up something awful. I got it in October and it's been reoccurring since then.

Bought the pessary, the internal cream, external cream.

I went to the GP who did swabs (day after cream and the swabs came back negative) GP gave me 3 x flucozone (sp? ) to take over 72 hours. Which kept it at bay over Christmas.


I'm due to see my partner for the first time in 3 months and I'm terrified I'm going to give her thrush. I did last time and was.mortified!!!

I'm just so upset.

I've bought ph friendly soap which I only use on the vulva, I've stopped using bubble bath, I've bought that good bacteria casual things from Holland and Barrett.

I just don't know what to do. I'm at the end of my tether :(

Are you allergic to some foods (maybe dairy) or low in immunity? Can be causes sometimes

Are you sure it's thrush?

A GUM clinic will check there and then for you. It could be BV which needs a different treatment.

Gamer I had a full STD check in September all clear. GP checked on the swabs recently too. All clear.

I had my bloods done too and they were all fine.

Did the gp check your urine for sugar?

Just looked up BV and it says that causes smelly discharge and no itching or soreness.

I get itchy and sore but don't have any smell or discharge so don't think it's that.

Didn't do a urine test 3 frogs but the blood test checked blood sugar for diabetes.

Have you tried the tablets that you swallow? They were the only thing that cured mine. I was prescribed them from GP initially but then bought them online when my prescription ones ran out. They are called Fluconazole.

Yes that's what the GP gave me. 3 tablets over 72 hours and I've also taken another since because I felt the start up burn.

Was going to ask if you'd tried to cut dairy out?

When I had it I had a lot of baths with tea tree oil, lavender oil and a cup of milk. Works absolute wonders.

Also try soaking a sanitary towel with lavender oil/warm water and just hold it on for a minute or two. I did this after I gave birth and it helped with my thrush a lot.

I would cut back on sugar and yeast. Wear cotton knickers, not use perfumed soaps/pads. An old home remedy is to dip a tampon in natural yoghurt and insert for a couple of hours then remove. The natural bacteria culture in the yoghurt neutralises the inflammation.

I'm starting a diet/healthy eating plan today so will be cutting back on bread and sugar.

The natural yogurt thing sounds good.

Oh yes sorry, just re-read and saw you've had that. Although my GP gave me 6 months worth of them and I had to take one a week and than after that I just took them if I had a flare up. You need to take them over a long period of time.

I've had 7 years of this, what works for me is low sugar, then supplements: caprylic acid, acidophilus, kolorex.

Use condoms to prevent infection for your partner. Could your dp be giving you the infection? It's a vicious circle if you both suffer from bouts of it. Any 'toys' or gels you use in that area need to be sterilised and properly clean too.

Seriously go to GUM clinic - even though obvs you don't have STDs. They are the experts in treating recurrent thrush.

If you use a swimming pool this can really make it flare up also. Some pools are worse than others.
If it is only external itching it may not be thrush but may be a localised skin ailment like eczema. If that is untreated the scratching and itching spreads and it does feel like thrush.
I thought I had thrush too until a doctor at a women's clinic looked a bit more closely at the skin in the pubic area. She prescribed a steroid ointment that stopped the itching straightaway. Possibly doesn't relate to your situation.

I had recurrent thrush, partly because I am diabetic.

I had weekly pessaries for 6 months. I now also take good quality daily probiotics. Seems to be keeping it at bay.

Maybe your partner could take a tablet just in case?

I've not seen my partner in months so we aren't passing it back and forth.
No swimming pool.

Sadie think it is thrush because my partner got it for the first time in her life after we spent the night together (not seen her since. We live far apart)

I have acidophilus.

Get hold of some Tincture of Myrrh, douche with a few drops in a cup of warm water. It is the only thing that treated my very recurrent thrush. You can buy the thing to douche with at larger Boots or chemists.

It also makes a good gargle for mouth thrush - a side effect of chemo.

Excuse me for being a bit dim, but you can only get thrush through sex with skin to skin contact. If you are gay, then unless your partner's vagina touched yours then it won't be transmitted sexually- not even via hands as far as I know.

Avoid alcohol for a while. This also helps whenever I've had a flare up.
