I feel so rotten!

Disclaimer: my gp is rubbish and passes everything off as a virus. I don't know if they are just over worked or what but something is telling me this is more

Past month my skin is painful to touch,my wrists/elbows and hands ache and throb but no swelling. Dry eyes that are always blood shot. Stiff neck and feeling sick on and off during the day. All my joints click and feel like they are not in the right place after they click. Also painful when they click!

Relentless tiredness if I didn't have dcs to take and collect from school I would sleep all day. Low mood poor dh got his head bitten off yesterday Sad

I just haven't a clue what's going on but I feel progressively worse each day. I'm definitely not pregnant and I only have osteoarthritis in my hip but that's it

Help mumsnet!

Have you had any bloods checked? Should probably at least have some basic initial blood tests to check for inflammation, thyroid problems etc.

How do you score on the Beighton and Brighton criteria?

When you say dry eyes, are they really dry? One thing to look at might be Sjogrens syndrome

What positive steps have you taken?

Get a multivitamin.

Drink loads of water.

Walk every day.

Excercise.

Meditation.

No alcohol.

Go to bed at 9.

Try some changes for a week see how you feel.

You say your neck is stiff, are any other joints stiff or painful? Does the neck stiffness feel better or worse if you rest the joint?

(That page with test criteria is about Joint Hypermobility Syndrome, but also have a look at the page on EDS, for which JHS can be an indicator.)

I had similar symptoms and it was a mix of issues with thyroid meds (not quite enough) and hypermobility syndrome, the only other thing was slightly low ferritin.

Have you had thyroid checked?

Due to hypermobility I loose weight when underactive. It weakens muscles.

I remember the skin sensitivity vividly.

On top of it all getting enough sleep, exercise, vitamins etc was a factor.

I've got a virus at the mo - painful skin, joints ache, stiff neck, feel seasick, feeling tired and sleepy all the time, so your GP may be right.

However if your mouth is dry as well as your eyes, Sjogrens is worth having a look at as suggested above.

Ok well it seems like you are taking good care of yourself.

I had something similar when I got an infection. I had some metal in my back and after a bowt of flu the metal became infected. The infection was everywhere inside me. I am not suggesting you have this! But when I next got an infection (mastitis) I felt the same. V sensitive skin, sick, felt generally rubbish. Get them to do a blood test to check for infection markers. If you are not generally ill person maybe your doctor will give you a general course of antibiotics. I'm sure they will dismiss you so be pushy.

Good luck.

Definitely push for blood tests OP, don't let them fob you off. Fingers crossed it is just a post viral thing, but it definitely needs checking out.

Thanks again! No bloody appointments so I'm going to drag myself to walk in once dcs and dh are home.

I think you're right with regards to infection but I think that's making whatever the underlying issue worse.

Thanks again will deffo push to be taken seriously

Do u mean you have an underlying issue that's been going on longer than a month?

Report
earlyriser · 17/12/2015 21:19

Might you have Lyme's disease? Some symptoms fit but not sure about the eyes.

Report
MushroomMama · 18/12/2015 07:32

No I think there's another underlying issue sorry wasn't clear there

I mentioned up post that I have osteoarthritis but I've had a long while so I know that it's not related

Fell asleep when dh came home so trying again with the gp today

Thanks again!

Osteoarthritis + dry eyes, I strongly suggest you look into Sjogren's as mentioned above.

'Arthritis may develop before the onset of dry eyes and/or mouth in SS patients and thus be the first manifestation of Sjogrens Syndrome.'
