really painful piles

Can anyone recommend an effective treatment I can ask the GP to prescribe?

I have tried every over the counter preparation known to man, as well as ice packs, and I m still in awful pain. I saw something mentioned on another thread but can't find it now.

Ask the GP to prescribe Xyloproct or Scheriproct, both contain a steroid and an anti inflammatory plus something to help numb the pain- far more effective than over the counter remedies.

Second vote for scheriproct here too. I had horrendous piles throughout my pregnancy and it was the magic cream for me. Helped to stop the itching and soothe them too.
Also if you suffer with constipation too then try and sort that out as it can make them far far worse. Lactulose was my go to in pregnancy and loads and loads of water. Oh and a doughnut cushion to sit on too!

hi fifty I saw your post and couldn't not reply ! you poor thing. you have my sympathy. I had heard about piles and kinda thought how bad can they be. however, I got them during the birth of my baby. I was in agony. I would have taken my epidural free labour over the agony of piles any day. I went to my gp who prescribed a cream but they were so excruciating I couldn't even apply it. couldn't wipe after the loo either, so thank god for electric shower. went back to gp and insisted they do the little surgical procedure to get rid of them. 12 days after having my baby I was back in the hospital having it done. I died 1000 deaths having to show it etc, i blush just thinking about it, and insisted on as much stuff to knock me out as possible. but god id do it again in a heartbeat. couple of days & Dettol baths later, all was perfect. i'm still aware to not get constipated so drink plenty of prune juice etc. my advice would be to get the little surgical procedure done if you can..........

My DH had a probe (he said) and an injection to treat them. Has a follow up before Xmas. He says they're better but not perfect.

I managed to get a prescription.

I have had the problem for years, but it has suddenly got a lot worse

I need to get something done about them, but I had surgery for them years ago and it went horribly wrong - I ended up in a worse state. I am really scared to go through it again, but I can't carry on like this.

I think this stuff is helping (thank goodness).

Glad to hear you are a bit more comfortable.Sorry to hear you had problems with surgery in the past. I put up with mine as am too scared to face the idea of surgery or the pain afterwards, plus the fact I was told they leave the wound open to heal.Sounds dreadful!
