Throat/ear virus - go back to docs?

Felt poorly since last Wednesday. Really sore throat, ear ache, headaches, feeling sick, weakness, temperature. Saw doc on Friday who said it was just a virus - no sign of infection - & I should give it a week to 10 days. My temp was 39 last night & my ears felt like they were on fire. Temp does come down with paracetamol. Feels like it's more on one side this morning.
Just wondering whether I should go back to docs, what do you think? I don't think I have ever had a temperature for this long in my life. Anyone had anything similar recently?

As the doc said, it's probably a viral infection and they can hang around for a while. Unfortunately there's nothing much to be done but wait it out. Going back to the GP is unlikely to get you anywhere (except possibly some useless antibiotics just to get you out the door, depending on who you see. Oh, and another similar infection picked up from the waiting room!).

I'd heed the advice and give it the 10 days before going back (unless something more serious develops) . Keep well hydrated and rested, and take the paracetemol if you feel it alleviates your symptoms. Keep an eye on your ear over the next day or two, and if that seems to get worse then you could go back for that to be checked out. Even an ear infection will more often than not run it's course, and is generally left as a 'wait and see for a couple of days' thing.

Hope you feel better soon Flowers

Thanks Bin. I think I was more concerned because the temp had lasted so long and because I don't remember ever feeling so completely floored by a virus.
But I think you're right that there isn't much the doc can do.
