Bleeding after (and during) sex - sorry if TMI

SmileAndNod · 26/09/2015 17:50

So a few times now I've bled a lot during sex (soaked through sheets). I've also had spotting between periods, which are getting closer together.

I've put it down to my age (43) but I'm wondering if it is the peri menopause? Has anyone experienced something similar?

Should I see the doctor? My smear is up to date (July 14) but it took a lot to get me there after horrible births.

Yes, you need to see your GP.

My husband wants me to. I was hoping it was the menopause. Now I've been googling and I'm worried there might be something really wrongSad

You do need to go to your GP just to get checked out. I had this a couple of years ago and it turned out I had a cervical erosion which is completely harmless and can either be left alone or cauterised under a local anaesthetic. Try not to worry but do also and get checked out.

I know it's scary but it's probably just a benign polyp. Try to stop Googling and go to your GP and let him/her help you.

I don't think that sounds like normal menopause symptoms and think you should go to the GP.

Hope all ok.

It is probably cervical erosion - I had it. Better safe than sorry though - see the GP

Yea. Just get it checked out. You will feel better for it.

If you have a sexual health clinic nearby - try an appointment there, you may get seen sooner

Good luck

Go see your Gp
I'm in the same boat as you. Bleeding after sex and in between periods. My latest smear has come back normal and I'm due to see my gp tomorrow. I've bled for 2 weeks solid since my smear test.
Hope you're okay!

Back from gp.
She seems to think I have a cervical ectopian. Which is where some cells that should be in my cervix are on the outside. So when they get knocked through sex they bleed.
I've got to go and have some swabs taken after I finish bleeding to rule out infection.
But nothing really to worry about!
She did she she would refer me to a gynaecologist if I was worried but ill wait and see what happens with the swab results.
Hope that helps

Thank you. Did she do any tests while you were there? It's anything internal that freaks me out. I suppose I'm going to have to be brave.

I'm so glad that you have nothing to worry about. I bet you're relieved. Google of not your friend in times like these!

But yes be brave! It's never as bad as you think it's going to be!

Just to update this thread. I had my appointment a couple of days ago, went through the symptoms and had an internal hideous. Doctor isn't sure what it is. It could be an infection of some sort, a polyp, cervical erosion, or the symptoms do point towards cervical cancer also. Had swabs and sample taken, and now I'm waiting on results and a referral. Could be 2, 4 weeks or longer depending what they find.

I am absolutely dreading what may come next. Haven't really slept for a couple of nights. I had to ask my mum for a cuddle - at my age!

sending Flowers and hoping it is something simple to deal with. Even if it is serious, you can get through it and come through the other side

Good luck

I started to bleed during and after sex a couple of years ago, I would've been 31 at the time. I had an examination, swabs, a smear etc. and it was diagnosed as cervical ectropion. I was referred to have it cauterised a couple of weeks later. It was done with an electrical current under a local anaesthetic and it was absolutely fine, I just had some moderate period-pain type cramps for about 12 hours afterwards. I had a smear test at the time and again a few months later which were both clear and I haven't had any problems at all since. I hope it is something simple to deal with in your case too.

Hi OP, I have had exactly the same.

I had a smear and swabs done and just received the all clear.

No sign of cervical erosion eitheer

I would love to say don't worry, but I was worried sick.

I have to make another appointment at the doctor to get a scan. I was meant to be having one for suspected pcos anyway.

Just wanted to say I know what this stage is like and offer some support and let you know it's not always the worst when you have these symptoms Thanks
