Do you suffer with stress if so what physical symptoms do you get?

And does it make you feel really ill?
I am tired all the time, constantly on edge with frequent dizzy/faintness feelings. For short periods I am feeling very agitated and nervous, this goes but then I never seem relaxed. My sleeping is bad, my muscles ache and I feel physically weak a lot. All in all I feel very poorly but gp says just symptoms of stress and nothing to worry about but surely it is not normal to feel this bad. I also forgot sometimes I am short of breath and my fitness level is crap.

I get every physical symptom under the sun!!! Couldn't even begin to list them here! Each time I convince myself I've got cancer as a result too and the cycle worsens.

Some e.gs:
Over itchy left eye
tingly / sore tongue
runny guts
achey feet

These all generally pass with time or whenever a dr tells me I'm not about to meet my maker (whichever happens first!) but it's horrible when it's going on!

has your gp offered you blood tests just to rule out anything else just in case?
when i get stressed my appetite decreases and I lose weight quickly, in fact I can normally measure how good I am by how hungry I am

stress for long periods is not good for the body or the mind, have you tried exercising? Its a bit of an effort I know but once you start going (whatever you enjoy swimming/gym/walking) you will feel better and want to go more. It will help you relax and you will feel tired for the right reasons and be able to sleep rather thatn stress-tired which just keeps you awake.

HTH a bit

I suffer with health anxiety and need ADs to keep it away.

Physical symptoms can include all what everyone else here has mentioned.

sort of yes. Although it goes on for longer than the feelings that a lot of people have from time to time, even after medical assurance that nothing is wrong. It can last a long time, sometimes affecting normal day to day life, resulting in the need for medication.

Do you just worry or actually and on heart get the medical symptoms of what your worried about? I too have been through a couple of phases when I have been convinced I had cancer, heart disease or hiv. But mainly when I was younger and each time triggered by an illness in someone else.

According to chinese medicine organs are affected by a different emotion. It depends why your so stressed, what's causing it? Is it a one off or permanent. Are you just exhausted?

I have bad health anxiety which I just try and live with. Mine is also triggered by something that others have had. A friend of mine has MS and each time she has a relapse and describes her symptoms to me I also "develop" them. I can sometime see the humour in it all and that I'm being riduculous but when it really takes hold it's deblitating and also hard work for DH to work through with me.

I found hypnotherapy wonderful for relaxing and reducing anxiety.

How are your iron levels thisturkeyneedsstuffing?

Report
madmarchhare · 28/11/2006 14:57

Thisturkey, it is usually being stressed that causes the symptom and the anxiety follows that. I often get addrenaline rushes that cause ectopic heartbeats when I am at my worst.

Racing heart, feeling like my chest is cramped and sore, breathlessness....which I why I went to the GP when it first started as I thought I had heart disease. Guts ache and runny tum sometimes. Aches all over like flu. Tiredness (but that is normal atm) and irritability.

All cack really

If you have been experiencing these symptons for some time I would go back to Gp and ask for blood tests-could be a nunber of physical reasons why you're feeling like this for example are anaemia

Report
thisturkeyneedsstuffing · 29/11/2006 08:17

Because I have suffered on and off for years gp never suggests anything. Although I have been well prior to this episode for ages.
About 10 years ago I was getting regular ectopics so was fully investigated by a cardiologist after gp tests ruled out thyroid problems and nothing was found.
I tend not to go back to gp as my unwellness is quite non specific and vague - I feel silly and ashamed .
For example today I feel breathless and tired but last night I felt anxious and dizzy, earlier in the week I felt weak and faint. I feel terrible complaining about tiredness as who isn't tired when they have a whirlwind toddler to look after!
Its just that for the last couple of months I never feel well. I'm pretty sure I'm not anaemic as the whites of my eyes are not yellow and once when I went to the gp he just looked at my eyes and said I didn't look anaemic - plus I take iron suppliments as I am still BF.

I'm not a doctor, thisturkey, but I reckon you have to have a blood test to check for anaemia. Also, get them to test for under-active thyroid. Don't suffer: b-feeding, having a toddler, life can all be very tiring.

Yellow eyes isn't a sign of anaemia (liver problems I think) - he was looking at the colour of the bit just inside your lower lid.

I suffer from anaemia and even when I'm really low on iron it doesn't show in my eyes. I get breathless, dizzy and tired.

I think you should go back to your GP and insist he does some blood tests - to rule out anaemia and thyroid. Just because it was OK before doesn't mean it still is. Thyroid I mean. And anyway if it is anxiety causing your symptoms then a clear blood test would help you anyway wouldn't it?

Can you see a different GP?

Report

This all sounds very familiar...except...I don't feel particularly stressed! Seem to live at the doctors. I don't have a great relationship with my dr anyway tbh, they seem to think it's now asthma following on from a chest infection. Am on strong ab's and steroids. I feel like I'll never be well again...

Report
gingerjean · 01/12/2006 21:05

All the symptoms you describe sound like stress to me. Are you stressed more than usual? New job, baby, moved house, doing exams or presentations?
