if heis temperature doesn't come under control then i would see the doctor and or if he is lethargic and unresponsive, not taking fluids

hope he is better soon

I think you need to leave 3 hours between the alternate doses - not 2.

I think you can give them at the same time, as someone else said, so wouldn't have thought you need to leave a certain time between doses of the different meds. You just need to make sure you follow the intervals for the particular medicine so you don't overload his system, I think.

Hi, just had 2,5 year old with high temp and doc gave me paracetemol and ibuprofen with the antibiotics. Said to give max 3 doses in 24 hours of each so alternated with every 4 hours eg 8am ibuprofen and 12 calpol then 4pm ibuprofen. But I did give it after 3 on some occasions as he was screaming in pain when the drugs wore off! If the temp is very high you can give both at the same time. If you are worried about the temp get a £3 thermometer at Lidl on sale right now, its got a digital display for measuring by putting in the mouth or under armpit.

You can give Calpol every 4 hours, but a maximum of only 4 doses in 24 hours. Therefore, in reality, you can only give every 6 hours! Following so far??! This is why its a good idea to stagger the drugs so that the whole 24 hour period is covered. You can only give a max of 3 Nurofen doses in 24 hours. Read the label carefully, and do give the full dose available for the age - often people under dose, and then get in a mess. So.. for example
08.00 Temp up = give full dose of Calpol.
10.00 Temp did respond and went down, but is now back up again = give full dose of Nurofen. (By the way, because Nurofen lasts for 8 hours rather then 4, it is often more effective at getting temp down and keeping it down.)
12.00 Temp still up = full dose of Calpol again.
If the temp has not reponded by this time, you might want to see GP and tepid sponge, especially if child is lethargic or flat.
Hope this makes sense!
