More frequent periods since giving birth

My periods have always been regular as clockwork every 28 days even when my weight has fluctuated from thin to overweight and back and forth. They've always been heavy and extremely painful.

My first period after birth was when my lg was 13 weeks (I didn't breastfeed) and since then they have been every 18-23 days and are still heavy and painful. I'm not on medication or using any contraception as I'm single but in the two years since my lg was born I have gained a LOT of weight (3.7 stone) and that's the main reason I don't want to go to the doctors about it because I know they will blame it on my weight gain even though my periods have been like this when I was still in a healthy weight range.

Just wondered if any other mums have had this with their periods after birth?

I think you should see your GP, especially as you say you have always been regular. Things can change after having a baby but it sounds as though you had her several months ago? Your cycle seems short now so maybe they can give you something to regulate it.

Yes she's nearly two so this has been going on for a while. I feel like I barely get a break in between them because I bleed for 6 days so only have two weeks between bleeding. I think I will just have to bite the bullet and go and see what they say

I had a similar problem since giving birth & it turned out to be an infection on my womb so I would definitely get it checked out if I were you. I only had a round of antibiotics & they were back to normal so it can be easily treated

Any such changes should always be reported to the GP; if the GP is unhelpful or has no clue ask at that time for a referral to a gynae. Do not take no for an answer.

The fact too that your periods have always been heavy and extremely painful is also an indicator for them to refer you as well (endometriosis cannot be ruled out here as a cause).

Thank you for your replies Smile I will make an appointment next week and hopefully get to the bottom of it

Yes doctor's, definitely.

It could be a number of things, inclduing thyroid problems, which would also explain the weight gain.
