What very physical symptoms has stress caused you?

DD 16 has had 9 months of exhaustion and numb arms and legs following anaemia, horrible virus and prolonged GCSE stress.
The fantastic Neurologist has reassured her that all bloods and MRI's are fine and it is likely to be hidden migraines but both she and I have noticed that her symptoms seem to be linked to stressfull events.
Has anyone else found very physical symptoms being brought on by stress?

Eczema and hair loss. If I get stressed the eczema flares up. On the bright side I have an early warning system in place now so I know when I have to detach or put the brakes on.

Stomach cramps, not being able to eat.

Eczema here too plus weight loss - about 3/4 stone dropped off during a stressful few months, taking me to an underweight BMI.

Vestibular migraines and painful ears and jaw caused by grinding my teeth when I'm stressed. I get very dizzy, it's not nice. Thankfully a splint from my dentist to wear at night has helped.

Still ruling out stuff, but think it's accumulative stress of 50 hr weeks, sadly having to have a termination and moving home twice in 9 months (ceiling fell down) plus dealing with DP and his ever demanding exP over DSS.

If it is stress: migraines, IBS, horrible horrible pelvic/stomach pains (which could be termination related), dizzyness, irritability, lack of periods, bloating, weight loss, dissociation, general aching and pains which I've never had before, floaters in the eyes, inability to focus, visual disturbances and slurring words, chest pains, palpitations, rubbish sleep...

Generally never felt so under the weather in my life.

Definitely - but it has taken a long time to work it out! IBS and sore throats are the main ones, usually when a weekend with my parents is impending...
I also get post-stressful week migraines, but manage these much better now that I know it's likely to happen. Mark Williams' mindfulness stuff has been very helpful with that - there is one about dealing with difficulties, and listening/feeling for how those difficulties make your body feel and that really brought it home that many of my recurrent complaints were actually a physiological response to stress.
I hope she feels better with time - and that you do too.

Oh and mouth ulcers, cracked skin and thrush.

Hyperventilation Syndrome. Stress messed up my breathing pattern, it was very surreal. I had chest pain and shortness of breath, dizziness and felt really weird.
HVS messes with the blood gas or some such, it feels very odd.

Mellifera · 19/07/2015 22:39

oh and visual migraines. Painfree, but a bit disturbing. I get a zigzag pattern in one or both eyes, sight completely gone fuzzy. Lasts about 15 minutes.

Oh no... Just come back to this (totally forgot I posted as got engrossed in a noisy flat carpet thread)
Very physical symptoms then.
Full sympathy to all of you, some of this sounds horrific and I am certainly not belittling the rest of it.
Thank you for sharing your very personal stories.

Extremely itchy "bubble" like skin condition on my hands and feet.. Can't remember what it is called now. Unfortunately after the first time I got it it is like my body remembers to trigger that reaction when I'm stressed (usually prolonged emotional anxiety brings it on but can be much less bad triggers). I had to use steroid cream for a year when it was at its worst Confused still have scars from it on my right hand

MadameLeBean · 19/07/2015 23:02

Ah "dyshydrotic eczema" or pompholyx

I'm currently in the middle of one of the most stressful times of my life and I feel exhausted. I ache all over because my muscles are in a constant state of tension, particularly shoulders, neck and jaw.

Blackf0restgateau DD is on sedatives to regulate her sleep, can't drop off then bing up at 7. This is hopefully a year long retraining body clock programe.

MadameLeBean Yes to DD's body recognising lesser triggers now.

Mellifera and totally bewildered that is SO scary.

Doesthatmakesence. I think time will resolve things for her but the link looks great and I will order it, thank you.

Missybtc, yes to the accumilation of factors! I hope things improve for you.

Interesting that some of you "put the brakes on" Florriesima and some of you choose to treat the physical symptoms Trixymalixie.

I will show DD this thread in the morning, I think it is going to be so helpfull to her, thank you again.
