diarrohea in lead up to period

This has been going on for years but is getting worse now I'm in early 40's. For about a week leading up to each period I get morning and occasional random urgent diarrohea often with back passage (sorry tmi) and occasional weird stomach ache. When I was bf a few years ago it was great to avoid periods and have a normal digestion! I've have been to the doc about this - gave me blood tests and ultra-sounded my uterus which they said was fine and gave me the usual lecture on eating well - which I do!

I'm sadly looking forward to the menapause as this is greatly affecting my work life and general confidence. Any advice?

I have this too and period pain is like back to back labour type pains. I went for an early pregnancy ultrasound with my first and casually mentioned it and they said it was because I have a retroverted uterus.

What you describe was my only symptom of bowel cancer at the age of 47. My bloods all came back clear so they kept telling me it couldn't be anything serious.

It probably isn't that but if I were you I'd go back to the GP.

Thank you very much Schro and Inda!

This is seriously blighting my life and I feel like I have to figure this out rather than get my umpteenth 'eat healthy' lecture.

This could also be retrioverted uterus for me too - I've never heard of this before but googling it, I tick every box!

And I'm so sorry to hear of your diagnosis Indantherene. Maybe I do need to visit the doc again. I hope things are clear for you now, let us know. Thanks x

Endometriosis can also cause bowel symptoms.

I have had this for years.

I know a lot of people do, it is very common.

I've always suffered with period shits- I blame it on the hormones!

I have this - had bowel investigations to no avail, until a laparoscopy confirmed what I had always known - that I have severe endometriosis.

It's horrible, makes the period so much more difficult. I typically can't leave the house for 2 days out of each month because of it.

I've always had it and there are quite a lot of threads on here saying its hormonal. Although tbh I do wonder if I might have endo- not much help!

Am also a period squitter. Usually about 4 days before I come on. Not brilliant in itself but rather useful as my periods are irregular so I know when to stash tampons in my handbag!
