Pneumonia - how long to recover?

I started to feel poorly last Monday and was proper ill by Wednesday. Once I started anti-biotics my temperatures started to reduce and I did feel considerably better for that. However I still feel generally horrible, even tho temp is now normal. I just wondered about recovery time? I presume mine was seen as a mild dose since I haven't been hospitalised, so any ideas of when I might feel something near normal?

My Dr told me up to six months. I had six weeks of hell with three lots of antibiotics. I am now in the second month of those six. I have found the breathlessness whatever I do the hardest to deal with and I STILL can't lay flat.

I was off work for a month and have had problems with breathlessness for years after. Probably 5? Not what you wanted to hear I'm sure, but make sure you take the time to get properly over it, don't push yourself too hard too soon with any kind of physical activity.

Hope you start feeling better soon.

I was off Uni with it for a few weeks, I couldn't afford any more time off, I still was not well. It took about 6 months plus to recover fully, my lungs did not feel back to normal for almost a year to be honest. It was very tough.

Hi Justme

I was hospitalized with pneumonia in May. I was on IV antibiotics for a week & then a week of oral antibiotics.
It took me at least a month for the exhaustion to lift. Then energy wise I felt ok.
Over the following weeks the breathlessness started. I couldn't inhale fully. Had a follow up X-ray which was clear & a respiratory doctor tell me there was absolutely nothing wrong with me but it would take a little time to feel normal.
I started exercising again and focusing on slow controlled breathing and I've been feeling much better.
It's just a horrible thing to recover from. You will get there. Don't overdo it.
