Might it be possible for him to go and visit the ward before his op? This happened with DS1, we went round a week before and met the nurses, they showed him his room etc, it helped enormously and he was only in for a day.

can you cancel work? even if it's a day op he will still need some pampering won't he? ice cream and fave videos? maybe a comic or two?
