Cycle suddenly longer - should I be worried?

As the title says.

Always been 27/28 days, 27 for the last year or two, regular as clockwork. Three day period, medium flow, not awful/no clots. Very lucky and predictable.

In December this suddenly jumped to 34 days, for seemingly no reason, in January it was 30 days and I'm on day 32 now and no sign of AF.

So, should I be worried? Nothing has changed.

We are not TTC at the moment but want to next year. I am 32.

Am I menopausal or something?!

Watching with interest as exactly the same thing has happened to me...

Well I've lots more googling, and most popular answer seems to be lack of ovulation which is a worry. Followed by perimenopause.

I would not worry too much, as 30 and even 34 days are not extraordinarily long cycles, even though they are long for you.

I have recently started charting my cycle (as a method of contraception for me at the moment, but also used to achieve pregnancy). It allows to to tell fairly accurately whether/when you have ovulated as you get a temperature rise afterwards which lasts until your period.

Have you been stressed recently? I also have 28 day cycles/easy periods but this cycle just gone I had a 31 day cycle. This was because ovulation was delayed, I believe due to stress as I underwent a very stressful time at work in the middle of the month.

I would recommend trying charting before seeing your GP. The book I have used is Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler (I think that's how you spell her surname). Very thorough and often recommended on here and by my charting teacher.

Thanks marvellous.

No more stressed than usual. Have some health issues but the same as I've had for ages.

I have the book and i have a thermometer - it's just remembering to do it in the morning I struggle with! Smile I'll try again from tomorrow.

I'm wondering if some medication im taking has made any difference. The amount of thyroxine I take has been steadily increasing for the last two years, and at christmas I increased my dosage by 50mg a week (I take 175 five days a week and 150 on two). I wouldn't think increasing would stop ovulation though...

Am going to book a doc appt!

Went to the doctor who says it's nothing to worry about as long as the periods are the same - so same length, same flow.

I'm going to try tracking better to see if I'm ovulating. Smile
