Ovarian cyst - amount of time to dissolve ?

HermonieGranger · 20/01/2015 13:27

I ended up in a-e with extremely bad pain in my lower right side twelve days ago.

After an ultrasound , I was told I had a small ovarian cyst. The nurse said that sometimes small ones can hurt a lot.

When the Doctor came the next morning , she said they would be discharging me and I would get an appointment with my consultant after my next cycle and another scan. She also said that it could not be the cyst causing the pain as its too small and gave me a sick note for work.

I am anxious to return to work so was wondering how long it took for other peoples to go away -dissolve. Any advice would be so welcome

Mine took about 2 years- was 3.5 cms across- but never knew it was there and was only discovered during a scan for something else.

I have a cyst too. On a 3 month 'watch and wait' and rescanned then. Mine is sometimes extremely painful so want to know how likely they are to go and how long that would take? Watching with interest. X

Hi. I was prescribed diclofenac for the pain. This did help a lot. Microwave heat packs and warm baths also helped. I found that the pain was cyclical, changing throughout the month.

Unfortunately, mine did not dissappear and twisted resulting in emergency surgery.

Hope you get something that helps with the pain soon.

I just take paracetamol but pain isn't severe it tends to be worse depending on positioning. If I sit in a certain position it must press on it? Gynae didn't seem worried said it was a functional clear filled cyst. But initial scan showed it was 'bilocular' ie two chambers so less likely to go away. Anyway I'm bloody petrified it won't go as have a real fear of having to have a GA! Xx
