I have had a lot of health issues in the last months, bad bronchitis, leaky wound, sinus infection, etc.
During all of my trouble I was on 5 different courses of antibiotics (yes, I know overkill) and my stomach flora is now severely destroyed. I was also taking a yeast based probiotic and ended up with thrush in various locations. For this I was given Nystatin, which seemed to do a good job of clearing the thrush up.
I would say within the past month and a half now my tongue is very sore. The tip of it feels burned and as the weeks go on I am not tasting much. I asked about this before with the taste issues and was told at the time it was normal with sinus infections, but the sinus infection is now long gone.
Last night I also noticed several red patches all over the back of my tongue which seem to be sore as well. My whole tongue feels like it is on fire, as does my throat in all honesty.
Does anyone know what this is?

Nope, no idea. But you need to go back to the doctors.

Could be something as simple as a vitamin B deficiency or a symptom of something else entirely such as a new infection. Get thee back to the GP.

Yes sore tongue rings bells with a deficiency - b12 praps?

Good stuff :) if it is b12 the pernicious anaemia society website is excellent. Hope you feel better soon Smile

Some good suggestions above - it could be oral thrush though, no?

I had this in the summer - like I burnt my tounge and no taste. I never went to docs and it went away after about a month but was quite horrid while it lasted

Thrush! Especially after five courses of antibiotics. You get red patches as well as white patches: you may also have it down your oesophagus but won't be able to visualise it.
Do you have any nystatin oral drops to try?

I had this quite bad for a few months then I settled and is now on and off. Sometimes feels like my whole mouth is affected. After lots of normal blood tests I was referred to the dental hospital and diagnosed with burning mouth syndrome.

The Nystatin I was given was a liquid and a cream. The liquid for Oral and Cream for below and any other area non orally area that had it. Both were for a period of a week, though I did things for two weeks just to be safe.
