Perimenopause and memory - anyone experienced this?

Have been struggling a bit with short term memory loss for the last 8 weeks or so, it started quite suddenly at the same time of feeling a bit unsteady. Not like me at all, sometimes can't find the word I want, can't always remember names, details, where I've put things - probably happens about 4 times a day. Very frustrating as I'm normally v lucid and articulate. GP has referred me for MRI as DS1 had a ruptured aneurysm when he was 9, and cousin had one, but no appointment yet. (despite referral being end November.) However, in the last 2 days my boobs have swollen beyond belief and the boundary of my bra, and are sooo painful - light bulb moment made me wonder if this is perimenopause. Has anyone else suffered crap memory, can't find words, has no idea where they've put things/which shop they saw that thing in etc etc during perimenopause? It would explain a lot. Will still be having the MRI (eventually!!) as vision in one eye a tiny bit odd as well, but no bad headaches so am not panicking. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Yes it sounds very familiar. My memory has been awful for about 6 months. I'm 49, my cycle is around 50 days and I seem to be pre menstrual for about 3 weeks at a time but the worse thing is my short term memory or lack of it.

I fear for my sanity sometimes. I work with DH thank god as I'm not sure any other boss would put up with me!

I hope you get our MR scan appointment through quickly. I'm sure your dr is just being thorough.

Yes absolutely, I have always been good with words and numbers but I can't remember a phone number now between looking it up and putting it into my phone, and I need to check it before I press dial. I also trail off in the middle of a sentence and don't always realise I've done it until someone tries to finish it off (the two ronnies anyone?)

I'm 49, but two years post hysterectomy so no more periods here, but I think I've been like this for at least a couple of years

Oh golly, thank you ladies. You have my.sympathy, I have felt like weeping at times when I look at someone and can't think of their name or have no bldy idea where I've put things. At work (teaching) I couldn't even line up names and boxes in the register; made a right mess of it. Don't know whether to be relieved this might be hormonal, instead of something more neuro, or not. Hormonal means it'll go on for years and can't be cured! Have mirena coil so no real periods to help judge.

Defiantly !!

It's quite frightening isn't it, I have it with spelling also really easy words!!
It's all part of menopause unfortunately.

I'm 2 years post and hoping it gets better but not holding much hope as I think that's what it's like.

Have a look i

Oh yes - have no brain now and can't rely on anything I say or do anymore - am constantly getting flustered and confused and I used to be Mrs Organised!

Also - crap hair, crap nails, obviously the night sweats and flushes which are so bad I am on HRT. On the plus side my skin is glowing? Its all so weird. I have so many other things wrong with me but not sure how many of them to blame on hormones (and now can't remember them anyway lol)
