nausea, diarrhoea and rotten egg burps - wtf? please help
it started yesterday morning by me feeling sick. then i started having burps that taste like rotten eggs. then stomach cramps (like period pains), bloating and by the evening i was feeling quite ill, had a mild fever too.
and this morning diarrhoea started, very watery and sudden bouts of it
Dr Google says it could be many things (inc a parasite )and I'm waiting for gp to call back but in the meantime I don't know what to do regarding eating/drinking etc and what I could take - I have a 5 months old whom I BF. I think I'm a bit dehydrated but feel like I'm about be sick if I drink even water. I'm exhausted and don't know what to do. please help - if you have had similar what was it? I worry my baby or kids might catch it.
It's a D and V bug or norovirus and it is nasty but nothing you can take for it. The Sulphuric smelling burps are common with nasty d and v bugs. Unfortunately it will be v hard for your baby to not catch it but they generally don't last more than 48 hours. Spray loo and taps with anti bac after every loo trip and have a towel of your own for drying. Tiny sips of water - you may throw it up again but keep trying, when you can hold water down again start eating with beige and bland foods and I like to lick a spoon of marmite for salt replacement and lucozade for sugar replacement. You really don't need to bother GP on one of the busiest days of the year with a stomach bug that's only been going on 24 hrs although I appreciate it's horrible esp if not something experienced before.
my worry is that is more than just a virus, from what I read it could be many other things. I had my gallblader out 2 months ago so I wonder if it's to do with that.
I don't care how busy GPs are today I feel like crap and I need to talk to someone. last time they misdiagnosed me I ended up in hospital so I'm not going shake this off as a "just a virus". that's why i was asking if others had these symptoms and what the problem turned out to be.
if it is a parasite my whole family needs treatment so I need to know. that's not "bothering GPs" - sorry but i think saying that is a bit harsh.
Don't spray with anti-bac, it won't kill it. You (or your DP) need to make up a solution of bleach and water in a spray botttle and use that to clean the toilet, wash basin, etc with. Don't share hand towels and isolate yourself as much as possible.
Try sipping flat coke or flat lemonade, that's good for the dehydration.
I'm just getting over this and it went round the kids school last week of term, ds had it last weekend, boys had it Boxing Day and I had it yesterday and today. Horrible cramps, sick and diarrhea plus horrible eggy burps. Coming out the other side now. Not a lot you can do except rest and I have sipped coke and eaten salty crisps. You sound very anxious over what is just a normal bug. If you have a headache and se Dr Google it will come up with brain Tumor even though there's only 0.0001% it would be that.
In fuckwitterys defence, a lot of GPS will request you don't come in to the surgery with the symptoms you've described above. It can spread much further and quicker when people go out and about making more people sick when there is no real treatment but bed rest. It's horrible but there's not much they can do but advise you stay hydrated and try to keep everything sterile to stop the spread. It's horrible when you are sick with little ones about as you worry so much about them too.
For what it's worth, it sounds like run of the mill D and V not Giardiasis (I think possibly the parasite you are worried about). With Giardaisis, generally they will wait it out and see if it takes the usual D and V course and if it doesn't will check for parasites later so it wouldn't make a huge different to their treatment advice this early on anyway.
I don't think anyone was trying to be harsh. You must be feeling rotten. Get well soon and remember if you become more concerned you can always call 111.
I couldn't go to gp's if i wanted to as I couldn't even make it to the loo on time earlier.
I'm still waiting for gp to call back. called 111 to try and find out what i could take - 20 minutes later she told me she can't advise I have to see gp.ffs
I can't and won't leave the bathroom.
yes I realise it's probably just a bug, but I had the eggy burp when I had biliary colic so forgive me for thinking it's something worse. (got jaundiced, ended up in hospital for 3 days on morphine and other stuff, was in a lot of pain and passed a gallstone. which is why I needed the surgery)
I have never had combination of these symptoms - but of course I had DV before
this one just doesn't feel "right". like "just indigestion " didn't feel right and even when throwing up from pain and being yellow and being told to go home and take paracetamol didn't feel right either.
I think it probably is sensible to call the GP given your recent serious health difficulties but I have had this combination of symptoms a number of times and I also googled madly and worried about parasitic infection but in the end was just a d and v bug although a very horrific one.
Hope you managed to sleep last night and have stopped throwing up it really is an awful bug and can understand your anxieties because of your health issues - I didn't mean to sound unsympathetic in my first post! Low point for me was sitting on the loo with terrible D and having to vomit into the bath as I couldn't get off the loo. Hope you feel much better today
weirdly & thankfully there was no throwing up this time, but I had done the spewing at both ends thing before, so I know just how horrid that is. (most memorable was 3 weeks after C-section with DS4 just recovering from mastitis. nice)
I had toast with honey and tea with soy milk. I needed that gp advised to avoid dairy for a week while gut is recovering - which is interesting. I will do that.
others have no signs of anything. I'm hopeful that was it.
DS2(18) had Noro about 8 weeks ago, he was having to sprint to the bathroom, whilst throwing up in a bowl, so he didn't shit himself on the way. There would have been no fecking way I'd have made it because I can't walk unaided. Fortunately I escaped it that time.
I hope the rest of your family manage to stay bug free.
The only thing that helps me is PEPTO BISMOL. I used to get all the symptoms including violent vomiting, soon as i get first couple of burps now I take a dose followed by another dose an hour later. No doctor in my surgery had any knowledge of eggy burps. Pepto Bismol really is worth a try.
Frosted Mini Wheats. I have had this twice. Just had it the second time last night. Empty your stomach if possible. Then, when your stomach settle or you get some sleep, eat Frosted Mini Wheats only. Don't use milk. water only
