who else doesn't generate their own heat? (following on from the 'heating at night' thread)

Because I don't Confused.

I can be bundled up in bed, layered up to the eyeballs and I'm still chilly if the heating isn't on. If I was in bed ages before XP he would get in and wonder why the bed was still icy. Even the DC's have commented on it. My heating has to be on at night or else I feel wretched.

I'm fine when I go out running, even in the winter. But as soon as I'm still I freeze. Why do I not have an internal heater like most people? I'm tipping towards the menopause and every so often wake up roasting, but the rest of the time I freeze. I'm thin, but healthy, never anaemic and thyroid has been checked.

Have yourself checked for blood clotting disorders. I recently found out i have two after constantly complaining how cold i am to doctors. Blood clotting disorders typically result in poor blood circulation which can leave you feeling like hell without lots of warmth.

I don't. At all. Not even when I exercise.

I slept on my own on Monday night and couldn't sleep because of how cold the bed was, even with three duvets and a blanket. It was just as cold as when I got in.

It sucks. DP moans about it all the time. I am a human ice-cube.

Can you not treat yourself like you would a baby who can't regulate it's temperature? After all you wouldn't just pile blankets on a really cold baby would you? You have to warm them up from the inside out.

Maybe a bath or hot shower before bed to raise your core temp before going to bed?

I do, but not as much as some people.

I have occasionally gone to bed, gone to sleep, and woken up because I'm cold.

I have a lovely electric blanket

My DH doesn't!

I'm like a little radiator, so I always have to go to bed first and lie on his side to warm it up, then he comes in and I have to scooch over.

He's always cold to touch. He does have bad circulation though, I think - doctors really struggle taking blood from him, I don't know if it's related.

I am the same - I'm constantly cold, especially my extremities. My kids run a mile from me at bathtime as my hands are always cold and they don't want me to touch them to lift their warm bodies into the bath. If DH is home, he has to do it - otherwise I have to put my forearms under their arms to lift them in!!!

I don't have the heating on at night but I do have an electric blanket to make the bed toasty warm before I get in. That and a hot drink at bedtime will see me through till morning (I don't leave the blanket on all night - just the hour before I get into bed).

I'm cold at night.
12 tog duvet + hot water bottle help though I hate to have the room warm.

Try proper woollen socks. Keeping you feet warm helps a lot! Smile

I use hot water bottles to warm the bed before I get in or an electric blanket.

I have also worn woolly hats in bed before as my DH works shifts so he's often not available to help warm me up.

I do like the room to be about 20 degrees though for me to be comfortable and sleep well. I do have Raynauds and my GP suggested a tiny glass of something warming like whiskey or sherry about an hour before I go to bed. Its genuinely a tiny glass but its enough to help with my circulation. Blush

I wish I could be cold at night. I sweat soooo much. If I was older I'd think I was menopausal. Even now I sleep naked with the window open, and a sheet instead of a blanket

Thanks to an underactive thyroid I feel the cold worse than anyone in the house. I'm always hitting the boost on the CH.

I don't generate any heat either and sleep alone. I give the sheets a good blast with a hot hair dryer then jump in while there is still warmth to trap under the covers.

You need to be warmed up first. It's no good putting layers on over cold limbs I've found.

Weird ClashCityROcker - I have bad circulation and they can never get blood out of me either. The only nurse who could was the IVF nurse at the fertility clinic (which was just as well as I went every day for weeks!).

I'm not allowed to give blood anymore as they can never get enough to fill the container even after me lying there forever!

SantasBassoon · 04/12/2014 22:03

I'm the same, and another who has always failed to give blood. I have very weedy veins, no big juicy ones. My hands and feet are always cold when I get in bed, but do eventually warm up by the morning.

We have still got our 4.5 tog duvet on, I have a thin blanket on top on my side. We don't have the heating on at night. But DH is like a furnace, sleeps almost naked & often throws the cover off. I have no idea how his metabolism manages it.

Have you tried wearing socks to bed? I do & it definitely helps.

Report
SantasBassoon · 04/12/2014 22:05

Oh yes, I always wear bed socks. I think the only time I didn't was on honeymoon in a tropical climate.

How odd, Meglet.

I am a cold person. Cold hands, cold nose, cold extremities, cold everything really. I suffer from mild sciatic and rheumatism and often sit around during the day with hot water bottles balanced on various aching joints. I don't have the heating on at night because night time is the only time I am guaranteed to overheat (menopause).

But I'm really quite fat!

Report
meglet · 04/12/2014 22:11

It's not just me then.

I don't like the idea of an electric blanket. I wouldn't be able to relax Blush. Maybe I need a thermal blanket in between me and the duvet. Hot water bottles only work while they're hot,

I should emigrate somewhere warm shouldn't I.

I have frozen cold extremities most of the time. My feet are the worst and I have bought myself some microwaveable slippers from TKMaxx. They stay warm for about 40 mins which is enough time to get off to sleep.

Strangely, the only time my feet warm themselves without external heat is if I drop off to sleep on the sofa. If I can nap for about half an hour I always wake up with toasty hot feet.

Some days I resort to quaffing vodka to warm my extremities. I can see why it is popular in Siberia!

I don't have your issue but I seem to struggle to self regulate if I get cold I can't warm up and if I'm hot I overheat quickly and feel really unwell. Hope you get to the bottom of it but does seem like an electric blanket could be the answer!

I'm always cold. Gets me down sometimes.
My bones get cold and it's really hard to get warm.
