Why does Mumsnet not support alcoholism?

As a relative recent newcomer I'm pretty surprised to find a dedicated category topic for fans of wine but nothing for alcoholism under health. Given that women at home are apparently the fastest growing group of problem drinkers this seems really poor. Mumsnet can you sort this out?!

everyone on mumsnet is alcoholic, pretty much.

mytherapistishotbutboundaried It's not really a subject to be sarcastic about.

OP, there are several support threads for those dealing with alcoholism or with questions about it. But you are right that there is no dedicated chat board for it.

I agree that there could be.

There are two long-running threads in Relationships - Dry and the Brave Babes.

New categories tend to get started when there's evidence of a strong level of demand. It sounds reasonable - but perhaps start a thread on _chat first calling an MN AA thread and see how many join in?

Put this on site stuff

Sorry. You're right, FATE. Please ignore my previous comment, Alfiepants. Good luck with getting your new topic and stopping/reducing your drinking everyone.

This is the second thread I've seen about this recently.

There are two long running support threads, the Brave Babes for those who are moderating/controlling their drinking, and the DRY threads for those abstaining completely.

We don't need a topic on Mumsnet or every single issue under the sun.

We don't have a Gambling Addicts topic, or an Overeaters Anonymous topic, or a Narcotics Users topic.

There is a ton of support here for problem drinkers if they want it.

Perhaps settle in and get to know the place a bit better before you pronounce judgement?

There is a board for Eating Disorders!

I don't see any reason why there shouldn't be a board for alcohol problems as well - but would agree that you need to post this in Site Stuff, OP.

There is a board for Eating Disorders!

My mistake. I never knew.

I always thought the dry thread was for those going through a dry period, sex wise! Confused

I think there should be a topic for this. Because it's one of these things that people just say oh I don't drink too much. I know loads of people that drink more than me. And I'm happy with my drinking. It's this complacency that has made the problem much worse. It's a ticking time bomb.

Thanks for feedback. I will post this to site stuff. Mintyy can't understand why it would bother you. I have no issue with anyone wanting to chat about wine, equally think it would be handy for people who are thinking about stopping or cutting down to have a forum rather than committing to a long running thread. I've been on and off here for about six years now so not exactly a newcomer...

Uncalled for Mintyy.
The OP is looking for support.
OP maybe drop mnhq a line regarding your request? Tbh I think it's a good idea and I'm surprised to see its not already here given some of the sections that are.
