'Kick up the bum' pain
(30 Posts)Anyone else get this randomly? It's literally like a kick up the bum and lasts for about 30 minutes. Me and OH get attacks of it every few months, if one of us gets one we know the other will within days. Weird. He's googled and it's called Cold Anus or something?! Oh and Elvis died of it - yep, on the bog because you feel like you need a poo but don't.
Anyway, just a moan and that's why I'm awake at 4am, there is no cure.
Look up "proctalgia fugax". Does that fit?
That's exactly it! We've tried his asthma inhalers but they didn't work. We also read of a bloke who'd punch himself up the bum but that doesn't appeal!
It's just annoying for half an hour, really painful then goes suddenly. Probably why my candy crush level is so high - anything to take my mind off it, OH studies wikipedia when he has one!
Yes, I get this too. It's horrible, there seems to be nothing you can do about it
We should stand up and be counted for our pain in the bums!
I always thought it was just me, DP thought it was just him!
I get that! Was paranoid that i had anal cancer until i googled it. Went to doctor for it once and was told it was probably ovulation pains....
I don't think my DP ovulates!
I thought it was just me too. I have tried to mention it to the doctor, but he just checked for piles which I do have
and said he couldn't see any problems
I tend to take painkillers, because at least then I feel I've done something and can try and relax - placebo? It doesn't help, because they take too long to work.
At least you can discuss it with dh though.
We have loooong discussions about our bums! He was asking why I was up at 4:30am, I just have to say 'bum thing' and he knows. You're right though, there's nothing you can do and any meds would kick in after its gone. It helps if I make a mental note of the time and know in 30 mins I'll be ok again.
I do find heat seems to help a little bit. I have one of those wheat cushions you can heat up in the microwave and it's quite comforting.
Haven't found anything about Elvis on the internet yet though .. feels a bit strange searching for Elvis and Anus!
Haha! It might be one of DPs bullshit theories! DP had an attack a few months ago which floored him, he was lying on the floor in the bathroom seriously thinking it would cause a heart attack. I slept through the drama..
I believe it's called arse javelin on MN Check out the weird things my body does thread in Classics!
I get that. I thought it was just a muscle spasming!
We get that too (and call it the bum thing also). I started years ago but now hubby gets it too (and more often than me). Only thing we have found which helps is to get up (usually in the middle of the nights) and sit on a scalding hot water bottle. Usually stops it. It is horrible I agree but GP not interested - like the rest of you found it online and heat tip too.
McFox, found the Classics thread I think that'll keep me entertained for days
Can't believe so many people suffer with this.
I get this as well. I can't sit, stand, lie on my back/front/side without awful pain up my back-end until the paracetamol/ibuprofen kicks in. Its like a bloody awful spasm that just fades away after a while. Shall have to try the heat on the bum next time and see if it helps.
Is it a bit like someone's shoved an old fashioned wooden broomhandle up your bum? I get a weird pain every once in a while and that's what it feels like to me, it's horrid!
Oh. I get this. I always thought it was ovulation pain. (Timing was right-ish) but obviously not if blokes get it too!
Just realised I haven't had it since I had DS (9 mo - I did have it whilst pg). Maybe he cured it on the way out?
Mine started when I was pregnant and is much worse if I'm dehydrated.
I'm not sure javelin arse as described on the Classics thread mentioned is the same as the feeling I get. It's more of an ache gradually building in intensity until it's unbearable, lasts maybe half an hour, then goes.
Also I haven't noticed it coinciding with my period or ovulation, the timing seems to be random
YY to bring worse if dehydrated.
*being
I get it when im ovulating, feels like I have a poker up my arse though!
