I've had major surgery including a bone graft in my leg. My GP has prescribed Zapain: paracetamol & codeine.
I can't see this as a good long-term solution.
Has anyone experienced similar & what meds were you prescribed?

Firstly poor you - get well soon Thanks. When I had major spinal surgery I was given oramorph for the first 2 weeks and then tramadol and then the paracetamol/codeine - make sure you take a stool softener/ eat loads of grapes and drink water etc if you don't want constipation.

Thanks QUEEN, I am just worried that para/codeine isn't a good long term solution & I know that this is a long haul thing.

You're right - it's not a good long term solution. Have you talked to your Dr about a pain consultant if this is going to be long term pain? There are drugs that interfere with pain messages to the brain etc eg gabapentin that might be appropriate. Hope you're feeling a bit better ThanksThanksThanks

OP

I've been taking a combination of codeine and paracetamol for 20+ years for arthritis. Along with various other things over the years.

As long as you and your Dr monitor things it can be a long term solution.

Queen, I was prescribed gabapentin, but I felt like a zombie on it. I felt like I was looking out of a goldfish bowl!

Sashh, what does your Dr do to monitor the effects?

Get well soon.

Been on co-codamol for a couple of years. Makes me feel spaced out. I doubt anything is good in the long term but you have to weigh up the pros and the cons.
