Deep Brain Stimulation

Hi, hoping someone knows about this treatment and is able to give me some advice. My father suffers from parkinsons and is going to undergo deep brain stimulation next month. I can find lots of information about the surgery but I really want to know how things are likely to be for him afterwards - both immediately and long term. My father lives in Australia and I am trying to decide whether to go over (probably will) and when is the best time to be there for him (can't imagine boss will give me much leave).

Kiwi, I don't know anything about this treatment, but wanted to say that my thoughts are with you and your Dad. I hope the treatment will help him. My mother passed away after complications from Parkinsons, it is a horrible disease. If he is coping now with the disease he is already very brave and strong. I hope you can get some time off for a leave. Is there any way that you can speak with his doctors to get a better idea?
