Constant nausea but no cause...

About 7 weeks ago I started feeling really nauseous, gagging a lot in the morning, feeling weak/dizzy sometimes too. Thought maybe I was pregnant after a few weeks (not trying) but 2 tests were negative. I had a period but as I did with my ds I did another test a few days after too just to check. Now it's been 7-8 weeks of feeling sick, bad taste in mouth, gagging in the mornings, and no answers.
Doc suggested sinus infection but didn't want to give me antibiotics (4 weeks in) to see if I could fight it. Have no head pain or tooth pain though so unconvinced. Had blood tests that showed elevated red cell count, and something that indicates parasites. Neither of which apparently explains my symptoms. My thyroid is also slightly overactive (already controlled with meds). Second doc I saw was stumped, said defo NOT a sinus infection and to get more blood tests (repeat them) in 6 weeks.
Despite overactive throid I'm gaining weight rather than losing as eating helps me not feel so sick.

Anyone else experienced anything similar? I'm seeing an acupuncturist next week but any possible causes would be great so I can at least run through them with doc if this continues.

Also worth noting no doctor has asked about my diet or felt stomach.

Thank you!

Slight nausea and bad taste would sound like a sinus infection (had one recently. Yuck. It lasted over a month and needed 10 days of ABs to get rid).

Gagging and feeling sick in the morning obv sounds like morning sickness but you're clearly not pregnant. As does eating loads to prevent feeling sick.

Could the gagging and feeling sick have something to do with thyroid?

And the bad taste etc is just a sinus infection.

Poor you it sounds awful. Sorry not to be of much help.

Thanks. Good to hear that sinus infection can cause at least some of the symptoms. Did you have pain or anything though? I've had nothing, nor anything gross from my nose.
Will have to go back to docs soon and see another one - if there is the chance it's an infection I want the drugs lol!!

Thanks. X

This time no pain as such. I've had it two years ago and it was agony. I think it varies.

Go back to Docs and list your symptoms again. You can't go on like this. It sounds awful.

I've had the same sort of symptoms for the past 2 weeks - I can only imagine it must be a viral thing I've got? I don't ever get stomach bugs, but with this I've had really strong waves of nausea, so much that I can't even talk. I had to sit down on the pavement last week on the school run too - suddenly felt all hot and felt like I was going to pass out. I'm definitely not pregnant either, and 70% of the time feel absolutely fine!? I hope it doesn't carry on for another 5 weeks!

That sounds familiar kateschmate!
Thanks mrsflorrick, I will go see another doctor next week if I'm still like this. It does suck, I won't lie...

I've had constant nausea now for about 3 months. My GP has been excellent and run lots of blood tests, none of which showed anything. She said she wanted to get to the bottom of it though and I'm off to the hospital this week. As well as the nausea I have completely lost my appetite. I feel full most of the time, but I have been forcing food down so haven't lost too much weight. I think my symptoms are leaning towards something like an ovarian cyst. Thought I would share and hope you feel better soon

Do you take Iron supplements at all?

I find when I take iron I can feel quite sick.

Hi
I have the exact same symptoms, have had them for the last 2weeks. Have you asked if it is cyclic vomiting syndrome (cvs)? Its more common in young children but adults do get it as well.

Report
lem31 · 03/11/2014 22:00

No iron, no. I try but forget every day! I think diet seems obvious as a cause though - I went veggie about 6 months ago but go hasn't once asked about diet or lifestyle.
Sickness is starting to ease (I hope) which is good, but getting low down tummy pains (like period paid) and full feeling there which is wierd. I'm wondering if it could be hormonal as been so pregnancy-like and my thyroid function is all over the place. Maybe it's putting things out of whack.... Seeing an acupuncturist tomorrow so hoping he can help.

Notjustamom-cvs sounds awful! Luckily I don't have it as bad as the Wikipedia description so feeling grateful that it seems unlikely. That sounds quite intense where this has been grumbling on and on.... Thanks though. X

I've been having something like this with stabbing pains in ovary area. Dr Google suggested ovarian cyst so I requested a pelvic ultrasound. Waiting for that. Weirdly my blood test showed slightly over active thyroid which I have never had before. Weird.

Ooh, googled it. Very interesting. Lots of pain on 1 side last couple of days. Says can cause symptoms like nausea and other pregnancy like symptoms which really could explain a lot...

If I'm not feeling better next week planning on heading back to docs to will take that little gem along! Thanks. X

Hope you get it sorted out. Would be interested to hear the outcome x

I would also be interested in the outcome. I've had similar, the nausea eased for a while but over the past two weeks or so it's come back. Have had ultrasound and blood tests, all normal apart from iron so have been taking spatone for past 3 months but not sure it's helping anything! Coeliac came back negative but have gastro appointment on 19th.
Hoping there is some cause as it's really making me miserable!

No wonder moodykat. Sounds awful.

I had acupuncture and he thinks its a hormonal imbalance which was interesting. The pain got really awful but has now all but gone, just leaving me a bit achey. I wonder if it was a cyst as it seems to fit best from anything I've read.

I will of course let you know if doc comes up with anything. X

Another one here with the same problem. It's been on and off since the summer but got worse around Sept/Oct but more or less cleared up end October but is back........no real pain but a few stomach cramps and poo different colour (sorry if tmi) I know I should see the GP but I hate going there even though I have one who's very nice. Never had anything like this before and yep it's making me really miserable too. I usually eat quite healthily but haven't been for ages - white toast/crackers etc as I can't face my usual diet.

Surprised no one who has seen a GP has had an endoscopy as I would have thought this would be one of the first things to look to see if there is anything wrong in the stomach.

Definitely need to see GP...........

Yeah, you should defo go this week. When you feel bad you eat bad and then it makes you feel worse. I'm like that at moment so get it! But you need to get better and you will need to see doc if its been going on that long - isn't going anywhere on its own. Best of luck and keep us updated. X

Had ultrasound this morning and no ovarian cyst, phew.
Just ordered some mega probiotics to see if I'm just having weird digestive issues.

I had nausea on and off for years. Finally diagnosed with chronic gall bladder infection. Apparently it can mimic lots of things. I also had really unpleasant episodes of gassiness, bloating and pain, worsening in the latter stages but I almost never had the classic gall-bladder pain, right up until the infection flared up. Possibly worth bearing in mind? Unfortunately I think it's one of those vague symptoms that can be caused by lots of things. Hope you feel better soon.

lem31 · 11/11/2014 13:54

Mmegateaux - good news, thanks for updating. I hope the digestive option helps you find the cause. Good luck.

And thanks trilieral - a friend of mine had gall stones and she thought it was a tummy bug for weeks then needed emergency surgery when docs figured it out. I'm going to have to go back to doc soon and may actually get them to ask questions about digestion or feel my tummy at least! Very strange they have looked everywhere else but my stomach for the cause of nausea... X

Good news Mme.

Gall bladder thing is interesting, how is it diagnosed?

I've been feeling very nautious, gassy and bloated for the past week, have no idea why but this evening have very bad cramps and a touch of upset stomach. Am tempted to try fodmap diet or whatever it's called, just so I can feel like I'm doing something!

Nana - have you been to the gp yet?

No, I'm being a bit rubbish really. It's becoming normal so I'm living with it rather than acting on it! Also keep thinking maybe it'll go in a few days so I'll wait it out. I will this week though.

I had similar about a year ago, feeling very nauseous, queasy, burping a lot and spasming pain at night. GP diagnosed gastritis and gave me a course of lansoprazole which cleared it right up.
