I drink but my dp doesn't so we never really have much in the house unless having visitors. At night once all the days stuff is done we usually have camomile or herbal tea and a bit of chocolate. Not very exciting I know but I think anything if you do it regularly when you erlax becomes relaxing because you associate it with down time iyswim. What about a hot lavender bath with candles burning ?It will prob take a while but you've done a week so you've started Well done!

I come on here....honestly.

princessmel · 02/10/2006 10:39

I watch the telly with a cup of tea!, read a book go on MN! A takeaway always cheers me up.

ShowOfHands · 02/10/2006 10:40

I'm also tee-total and it's about finding what works for you. I wouldn't say I actually get stressed per se, but to unwind after work for me it's a bath, gingerbread, drawing, writing, watching a film, spending time with DH, cooking, walking, cycling etc etc. It depends on my mood. I think once you break the cycle of de-stress=alcohol, you find plenty of things that can otherwise occupy you.

mosschops30 · 02/10/2006 10:41

exercise
eat
smoke (although trying not to)

I rarely drink, only when i go out which isnt that often, but i can totally relate to people who sit down at night and enjoy a glass of wine, its just like going outside and having a cigarette

ShowOfHands · 02/10/2006 10:41

Oh and herbal tea's fab. I like Oolong at the moment.

EnidMyers · 02/10/2006 10:41

and I do cross stitch

serenity · 02/10/2006 10:42

Read a book, watch TV, MN? I don't know really. I find that as soon as the Dcs are in bed and I flop onto the sofa then it just happens. I do have a rule though, that as soon as they are gone, that's it - no more work, tidying or anything (but I'm home during the day, so I do that then) Drinking for me is a social thing rather than something to help me relax. Good luck anyway.

Shhhhhhhh. Don't tell everyone!

throckenholt · 02/10/2006 10:43

listen to music, read a book, watch tv, family history, take the dog for a walk, have a bath.

Normal things really. Just never feel the urge for a drink (and if I do drink I go bight red and very sleepy - think I might be allergic to it )

noddyholder · 02/10/2006 10:45

Huge spliff is the ideal followed by hot bath chocolate sex (Oh come back to reality noddy you are 40 now and only allowed herbal tea)

WigWamBam · 02/10/2006 10:47

Have a bath, read a book, do some cross-stitch, listen to music, do a puzzle, go for a walk, sit on MN. Alcohol used to make me depressed rather than relaxed, so I didn't really use it to de-stress anyway.

EnidMyers · 02/10/2006 10:48

I love a glass of wine

but it makes me depressed/stressed and crap the next day

so I try hard not to drink generally atm

foxinsocks · 02/10/2006 10:49

hot chocolate - in fact, I think I've fallen in love with Green and Black's hot chocolate drink

EnidMyers · 02/10/2006 10:50

god yes its lush

quite 'caffeiny' though I find (it keeps me awake)

southeastastralplain · 02/10/2006 10:50

i'm stopping drinking, i had too much last night and have had it with the booze.

expatinscotland · 02/10/2006 10:51

I'd smoke weed any day over drink, though.

foxinsocks · 02/10/2006 10:54

I find it very creamy and rich - I can't drink any of the other ones now because they taste so artificially sweet!
