Struggling with working out dosage of new medicine (TMI)

I have been diagnosed Dicycloverine for IBS I took two days (10ml 3 times a day) worth & stopped going to the loo completely for 5 days

So I tried 5ml once a day- which is still too much.....but not all day

Is it worthtrying 2.5mltwice a day or should I give up & go back the the consultant for advise

The GP said trial & error to work out the right dosage- but it's very uncomfortable

It's an anti-spasmodic rather than a blocker upper, so I'm not sure why it stopped you going for days.

The standard dose is 3 x 10, but if that's too much you can reduce it.

However, if 5ml is still too much, if might not be the medication for you, in which case you need to get some more advice.

What was it supposed to do?

Slow me down a bit & he said it might not work as it might not be strong enough

It's causing crippling constipation interspersed with normal (for me) diarrhoea

I 'normally' go 10-12 times a day - on FODMAP it's reduced to about 4-8 times

This was supposed to let me increase my diet but keep it fairly frequent

It was to help my 'very fast transit time'

Not sure how it was going to do that if it's designed to relax your bowel and stop it cramping.

I think the idea was that my bowel works very fast with foods I shouldn't have, so this would slow it down a bit

maybe?

Oh hell I don't know - he told me to take it, so I took it

I thought Ibs was when the muscles in the bowel wall worked either too fast or too slow - so as mine always work too fast. I thought the anti-spasmodic thing would be good

Have I misunderstood completely?
