Teenager and adenoidectomy. Any experience?

Overnight stay in hospital? Usual or unusual?

Also, the leaflet which came from the hospital said two weeks off school. 2 weeks??? The consultant we saw said "a couple of days".

So, how long would you expect to be off for?

its 2 weeks off because they can't be out in public as they are more susceptible to infection.

usually its an overnight stay due to needing regular pain relief and due to the risk of post op bleeding.

2 weeks! That's got to be a joke, I had one whilst at school and was back the next day!

Soft foods and a sore face but all OK within a week.

No experience with teenagers but DD (4) had grommets and an adenoidectomy a few weeks ago. She was fine by the next day, eating and drinking as normal and didn't seem to be in any pain apart from a bit of a sore throat.

Oh and no overnight stay, op was at 10.00 and we were out by 6.00.

I worked on childrens wards for 5 years until 2011 and it was always 2 weeks of no school, no public transport, no swimming etc due to the risk of infection. It may have changed in the last 3 years.

So consultant says a few days, leaflet says 2 weeks and NHS website says 1 week. Typical NHS consistency there

Ring the ward and check with the nurses.

Apply a bit of common sense... surely see how they feel after 3/4 days. Although I always find a general anesthetic knocks me off my feet for a week.
