Leg creases / hips question

Our dd (10 months) has an additional leg crease at the top of one leg. No sign of any other problems. Should we automatically take her to see the GP or not?

Does it necessarily mean there is a problem?

many thanks
alice

I can't quite picture where it is....at the top of thigh or top of the calf?

Is it the side your dd prefers to place her weight on when sitting?

Its on the top half of her right thigh (above the other one that is present on both legs). I gather it can indicate hip issue or discrepancy in leg length?

Not sure about sitting. will have a look tomorrow. Nothing obvious though

My dd had this I took her to my hv who then referred her to consultant at hosp but this was only because my brother had 'clcky hips' and as a precaution, there was nothing wrong with her hips, she just had lovely chubby legs! Worth getting reassured tho, just to put your mind at rest, hope this helps

Jasper, dd had this (HV picked it up at 8 month check) and yes, you do need to see GP, who'll prob refer you to paed just to check there's no problem with the hips. our GP referred dd and all was well.

if you look at her legs when she's lying down with them pulled together it is obvious if there is a lack of symmetry in the creases.

btw, dd is a normal-hipped four-year-old now, it really is just a safeguard. hth, D

My dd had this, turned out she was born with hop displacia (sp) she spent 3 months in plastercast from her chest to her ankles, so I would say get it checked out, so if there is a problem it can be dealt with before she walks.

My dd was dx at 6 months, it was missed the first few times, but she took it all in her stride, it did'nt seem to bother her at all.

Second Waterfalls. I have had 2 daughters with dislocated hips. The 1st was missed at 8 month check and wasn't found until Gp saw her at 1 year old.
2 dd to have it was also xrayed and ultrasounded but it was again missed and the creases in the top of one leg made me insist on referral at 6 months, she was found to have dislocated hip aswell.

It is definately not always the case with creases though as dd4 had a big crease and I was sure it was her hip but she was fine

About 2 weeks for the x/ray, and results were the next day, dont stress too much, there may be nothing wrong, and if there is your dd is young enough to be able to cope with it.
