I have IBS, have had for many years. I find the trapped wind the x
worst part and nothing ever relieves it. I feel like if someone poked a stick in my stomach, i would whizz round the room like a balloon! Any suggestions for things i could do or try gratefully. received. I already take meds, so thinking more of other stuff, thanks

I sometimes lie on my back with my legs leaning straight up against the wall for about ten minutes. I find that helps me.

A warm bath, and lightly massage your stomach (ok, belly - ie the bit with the intestines below).

Peppermint tea?

peppermint tea, or strong cordial and massaging my tummy round in clockwise circles whilst lying on the floor with feet raised always helped me.

Have you been tested for coeliac disease? I was told for years that I had IBS, then a random gluten tolerance test showed positive for gluten antibodies which was confirmed by biopsy.

Since going gluten free the IBS has gone.

Peppermint tea works for me as well.

Another vote for stomach massaging, I also take activated charcoal capsules when I get a bit too blustery.

Foot massage

Get your thumb (or a nice obliging person's thumb) press it into the bottom of your foot and push it hard up the middle of your foot to your toes

Repeat

Don't know why it works but it does

I find some gentle exercise works well, especially those 'core' exercises you do lying on your back. In fact it is so effective I have to be careful of where I aim my butt when I go to an exercise class Blush.

Otherwise peppermint tea is really effective!

Lying stomach down on an exercise ball is a great one. Or face down on bed with pillows under stomach if you don't have a ball.

I agree with Truffkin. Try lying face down, but with your knees tucked under you so your bottom is in the air (if you see what I mean).

Peppermint tea doesn't have enough peppermint in it to make any difference to me. Peppermint oil or cordial is better.

I used to get really painful trapped wind as a child. From about 9yo until I was in my late teens. I would be doubled up with pain, and it would hurt to move from my doubled up position. My mum would give me a small glass of whiskey (hardly any of this), sugar and hot water, stirred together to dissolve the sugar granules. I would sip it. It really worked. I remember taking a miniature bottle of whiskey with me to university for this purpose! And I never ever drank it for anything other than medicinal purposes, the thought of not having it if I ever got awful wind was that bad.

My DH suffered like this for years, had many tests done and nothing was found to be causing the bloating and wind. He always said it felt as though he'd swallowed a brick. A year ago he read an article about someone who had IBS and had the same symptoms. She started taking Vitamin D3 which helped a lot. So DH tried it and his symptoms disappeared overnight and haven't returned. He now swears by it.

On your knees with your backside in the air, like a dog or cat stretching.
