Has anyone had a brain biopsy?

I had swelling of the brain 18 months ago which was treated with steroids. It was suspected neurosarcoidosis, but wasn't confirmed by biopsy as it responded to steroids.

The swelling has returned and I've been booked in for a biopsy of my right frontal lobe to remove and analyze the meninges and some of the brain to check for sarcoidosis. Hopefully this will give a better idea of which steroids and immunotherapies to use to treat it so it goes away for good.

I'm having the procedure on Thursday so wondered if anyone who has gone through this can give me any information on recovery time and level of pain? I won't see the neurosurgeon until Wednesday and I don't want to spend all week making myself frantic by Googling things.

TIA Smile

My husband had a brain biopsy in 2000. General anaesthetic. Then a frame applied to his head and put into a CT scanner so they could get the coordinates of the lesion. Hole drilled in head and small needle guided in to lesion and biopsy taken.

Home the next day and really didn't have any problems at all. Very slight headache from the frame being on his head but as the brain has no nerve fibres for pain very little else.

Sadly it was a tumour which he survived 12 years but the biopsy was fine.
