And it is really itchy and red. I am going to try and get an appointment at GP tomorrow but I was wondering if anyone knows of anything I can put on it now to stop the itchyness and redness.

Is it around your mouth?

I have dermatitis on my hands. I have used Sudacream before now to ease it. It is good stuff. It doesn't cure it but makes it bearable until you can get something decent from the doctors and the advantage is that a lot of us with children have some lying around.

Do you have any Aveeno, diprobase, cetraben or epaderm? Or in last resort vaseline would be worth a go. Or any unperfumed moisturiser for dry skin. Avoid anything drying like antiseptic/nappy rash type creams. E45 type ones often drying for me too but I think it may contain something allergenic for me. Good luck.

If you want help not scratching in your sleep you could try and OTC anti-histamine? The pharmacist will advise.

I have some Piriton. Might that help with the itching?

Yes. Piriton would help most likely. Did it come on suddenly? Could be an allergic reaction.

Google peri oral dermatitis.
I had it recently and was prescribed steroids WORST THING FOR IT. Flared up badly and I couldn't go out.
Just be sure it's not that because gps often miss it.
I learned about it from Mumsnet.

I found honey very soothing.

My skin has been lumpy and a bit red for about 4 days but today its really flared up and is itchy and sore. Going to get some piriton now.

Piriton should help but if you are not used to taking it then leave it till just before bedtime unless it's the non-drowsy kind. The one with promethezine (not sure if that's the right spelling!) in it is incredibly sleep inducing for many people.

I would plan an oat bath with face dip included, followed by vaseline, piriton and bed. If your skin is pretty dry I would avoid sudocreme for now as can be v v drying ime. But others do swear by it. Think vaseline is less likely to cause problems. Then see GP or pharmacist for urgent emollient purchasing on the morrow.

Thanks. Have got some Piriton and will take it when I go to bed. Think I will leave the sudocreme as my skin is super dry. Oat bath ai think.
Thanks everyone.

I had peri oral dermatitis too and like ledkr tried steroids which really didn't help. It just perpetuated it and made it flare up enormously when I stopped it. In the end it was a mixture of dermol 500 and unguentum and time that sorted it out. I used the creams to wash my face too. I had it for about 9 months in the end.

Thanks Willie. Will talk to the GP and ask about alternative treatments to steroids.

If it is dermatitis, Nizoral shampoo did the trick for me.
Use it mixed with water as a face wash in the shower, leave it on whilst you shower the rest of you & rinse off.
I had dry skin on my face for years and this was a recommendation from a dermatologist. I never looked back & have never had dry skin on my face in years.
But see what your doctor says re dermatitis.

GP has prescribed anti histamine for a week and some E45 anti itch cream. I've to go back in a week if no better. Thanks for all the advice.
