Is it normal to feel like this?

Hi, my baby girl is 2 weeks old today and I'm concerned about how I'm feeling. I am teary all the time and can feel really low. I hate it when my partner leaves to go to work in the mornings and clock watch all day for him to come home. I miss the simplicity of our life pre-pregnancy it's almost like Im grieving for it and sometimes wish we could go back. I love my baby to bits but sometimes find it hard feeling that huge connection that I'm meant to feel. I'm exhausted but find it impossible to sleep in the day. Is this normal baby blues or could it be more? Pnd doesn't run in my family but that's not always the case is it?

This is totally normal. I was exactly like that at two weeks after giving birth, I felt like an emotional mess.

Can you get friends/family around to keep you company? It's early days but try going for a little walk each day and a play group is you can manage it.

If you continue to feel low then do talk to your health visitor or gp as it could be pnd.

It's very normal. I was the same with my first at that point. You are tired from all the broken nights & awash with hormones, as well as trying to deal with lots of unfamiliar situations, mostly on your own as your OH is at work - guessing he's recently gone back as well if your little one is 2 weeks old? You've got a lot on your plate!!

Talk to your midwife/ HV if you are concerned about PND, but my guess is that it will start to improve in the coming weeks.

As EeyoreIsh says - call on friends & family as much as you can for a bit of moral support. Try & schedule a bit of time out of the house each day if you can - even just a walk round the block, being inside & watching the clock all day can make things worse.

Last of all try & sleep a bit when she does during the day - a quick nap can make all the difference to your mood.

It will get better Flowers

Oh bless you. It is perfectly normal. I was convinced I was going to die and leave dd alone in the world.

It will pass.
