Hiya ladies,

I wondered if anyone was going through what I am ATM.

I have birth last September and got my first period about 6 weeks after birth (I bled for them 6 weeks but due to giving birth). Since then I have gone back on the pill, my period are very heavy and irregular.

I am constantly on a period which is making me worry that I'm loosing eggs and won't be able to concieve again :( I'm only 24 so not sure why this is happening. I'm also having pain in the left side of my hip when I'm bleeding.

This year I would say I have had about 2 weeks of no periods. My doctor said it was due to going back on the pill and hormones however I'm not convinced as it seems to be getting worse :(

I'm going back to the doctors this Thursday but I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this and could give me some insight of what it may be?

Thanks xxx

You don't have to worry about losing eggs! Women are born with around 2 million eggs!! You're well provided for.

Hormones can take a really long time to settle after birth even if you're using the pill. Your natural hormones will still be there and out of whack.

Did you BF? If so that can affect it.

I'm assuming you're not in pain or having any other symptoms and it really is just very irregular periods.

My vote is your hormones are settling but it may be worth a referral to a gyno for a full check up just in case.

Or perhaps change your contraception? The pill may no longer agree with you?

Not straight after giving birth, but last year I had a period that lasted two weeks whilst on the pill. Really heavy and large clots. The gp gave me a medication (sorry can't remember it's name) and it stopped my period. It did restart when I had the break on the pill, but back to normal now. I was on the Yasmin pill, but went back onto Microgynon which sorted it.

Er...you don't lose eggs when you bleed. The ova are held in storage in your ovaries in a "pre-ready" state: all the eggs you will ever need are sitting there from even before your birth, millions of them.

One of them, or possibly two or three, are chosen at random to be ripened ready for release each month. When the egg is ready, it "bursts" out of the ovary (often causing a noticeable twinge / small bleed as it does so) and it then travels down the fallopian tube where it may or may not be fertilised by a sperm.

If it isn't fertilised in time (the egg only lasts for 24 hours), it dies off, your hormone levels drop and you shed the lining of your womb. The whole cycle then starts again for the following month.

If you are bleeding constantly then there may be another problem such as an infection or something like a fibroid, which can cause irregular bleeds. Seeing your GP is the best bet: I hope it goes well for you.
