I'm on dose 3 out of 6 200mg trimethoprim, 4th to be taken later tonight.
I've had cystits for over a week (liveable with, prone to it, drinking loads) and two days ago sore tummy (though nephews tummy virus caught me!) but then sore back, both sides below ribs. (Have been taken paracetamol mostly with some ibuprofen - a couple of days after cytisis started - we were away, typically!)
Got a sample to the nurse yesterday and the trimethoprim, just saw the receptionist.
Thought I was feeling better this morning but no started feeling worse. DH took the day off to look after 1&3 yr old, got a gp appt, retested my urine (is going to send that one away thankfully).
Usually a short dose does the trick pretty quickly.
Was told to keep going with trimethoprim and call back if not better.
But this evening I was v feverish - teeth chattering and Vom. Slightly better (no earth shaking shivering) now.
DH Phoned Scottish NHS 24, said to take ibuprofen too (had taken paracetamol about 45 mins before)and carry on with abs. And obs to call back if worse.
So question - is trimethoprim effective on kidney infection. I know it's frontline for lower uti.
Will be calling surgery in the am regardless!
Many thanks in advance.
