Constant palpitations

Has anyone else experienced palpitations that last all day and had an idea what caused them?

I've had the odd case of them in the past but since dd was born 12 weeks ago they've been a lot worse. I feel them mainly every night in bed but yesterday and today I've had them every few seconds, all day long its really upsetting me and making me feel panicky.

I mentioned them to the gp at my 6 week check so I have an ecg on Thurs.

I have a cold at the moment, first one in about 6yrs, which could be why they are worse but I also have a feeling of a horrible lump in my throat, can't sleep, feel dizzy / panicky occasionally, worn out, weepy - can palpitations be due to anxiety, tiredness?

I'm also not really eating / drinking during the day due to running round after the baby - could this cause them? I am trying to sort this out though.

Lots of things can cause palpitations. It's a good idea to rule out heart problems first but lots of things can cause them. Hormones can be a cause, I know I get more of them in the second part of my cycles. Dehydration can also be a cause, make sure you're drinking lots of water. Caffeine can cause them so try to cut that out. I always get them after alcohol. Anxiety is a big player, and it might be worth chatting to your GP about this. They're truly horrible but mostly they are harmless.

Thank you. I did mention that I thought it could be anxiety related to my gp when he referred me for the ecg but he just sort of shrugged it off.
I think I'll see someone different and try again.

Its interesting you mention hormones as my periods haven't returned yet since giving birth and weirdly my under arm hair has completely stopped growing! I've read that can be hormonal.

Lump in the throat is a typical anxiety symptom. Here is some good information about palpitations www.nomorepanic.co.uk/articles/palpitations/

Last time I had them I thought it might have been brought on my over enthusiastic sink cleaning with bleach. Have you been doing that?
Hope you feel better soon .

Thank you very much raydown that link was really interesting and reassuring, I've tried to avoid caffeine today, keep drinking water etc (also had a big cry - maybe released some tension?!) and they do seem slightly better this afternoon.

Haha no Iwasagnome I haven't been bleaching anything but I've just realised reading that link that I have been taking some Beechams for my cold which contain phenalephadrin (sp?) Blush that could explain the sudden increase since yesterday!!

I had palpitations last week for the first time. My ECG was normal but my bloods came back showing I'm very anaemic, so having tests now to find out why. Have they checked your iron levels. My doctor told me this was why I had them.
