Hip replacement - which hospital? (Gulp!)

Well at the age of 50 I have been told I need a new hip, (osteoarthritis) or at the least a new hip lining..
I have just been given a choice of 5 hospitals by my GP...
Certanly was not expecting to be given a choice!! (have been very lucky and have had very little to do with the NHS so far so fairly green)
Chose Lancaster, Hexham, Freeman and Royal Victoria in Newcastle from the list flashed in front of me..
Does anyone know about these hospitals and what is their hip form??
Should I have chosen another Northern Hospital?

You can find out more info about care quality, recovery, success rates, complaints etc on the NHS Choices website, here . You can find patient reviews by changing the tab at the top, and change the search to other towns/cities if you want.
I'm just a bit younger and just this week I have been put on the waiting list for a hip op too.

My DM had hers done, about 8 years ago in York.

She had been recommended that particular hospital by a family member who works as a practice manager in a Gp.
