Broken ankle

I broke my ankle and two leg bones on 7th December. Had to have surgery to pin and plate it all back together. Have had plaster cast taken off and walking cast put on but can't walk yet. It's more of a shuffle. Has anyone else had a similar injury and how long did it take you to fully recover?

I had a spiral break of the tibia, plus fibula and ankle break just over a year ago. Surgery for a rod (right up through the tib) and pins and plates.
I didn't have a plaster cast, so it was relatively easy to start flexing the ankle and foot pretty much straightaway. This is vital. Don't feel too despondent if I tell you that it's only been in the last few weeks that I've felt moreorless recovered. I can just about walk without a limp, although coming downstairs is still a bit ropey. I can't kneel or crawl yet, nor can I pivot on the ball of the foot (e.g. swivelling to get in the driving seat of the car). I've been practising rising up to tiptoe on the bad leg and can just about do it. I put on a lot of weight due to inertia and over-eating but the main exercise I can do is cycling so am getting on with that now - 10 miles a day on the exercise bike.
So I suppose it's fair to say that it's taken about a year out of my life, although I've managed to do a fair bit within that year - travelling for instance. I'm due to go skiing next week, which is probably insane, but I'll have a go - am quite experienced, but seem to have developed Fear! We'll see how it goes.
