Hi babyjane...not me but my mum had one a few months ago and I was with her through out it all.

Not sure what you want to know...my mum"didn't like it" but a man next to us said it was fine ....but my mum gets funny over routine blood tests !!

The food part of it is very important...more than it was explained in our letter. We had not brought anything as we were going to have lunch in the café !

Mum was feeling a bit shakey so on doctors orders I got her some crisps as he said they were good for absorbing the "stuff" (the nuclear injection thing that I cant remember the name of !)

Mum was having hers done for Angina attacks and I will be honest with you (seeing as you are on here and so want to know)....she did feel like she was having an attack when the injection went in ...but they had explained all that to her if only she would bloody listen!

Lasted 30 seconds to a minute lot longer to mum but doctor and nurse are there and you are wired up.

I really hope this is helping you and not making things worse...I am presuming you are someone who likes to be prepared. Bloody hope so now after what I have written !

The actual scan part was fine ,mum drifted off to sleep listening to some nice music !

My 3bits of advice would be..

1)Food..... Simple food ,plain cheese/ham sandwich and drink and ..on doctors orders crisps !!...I am on about the food straight after the injection. We thought it was because she had had to fast and would be hungry...but no ! It is to do with taking the excess "injection stuff" away from the heart to the stomach so what is left will "stick" to the bits that need investigating.

2)Take someone with you if you can ...quite a bit of waiting!

3)Don't worry !! Grin

(you can ignore #3 if you want and pm me x)

Hi ..our day went like this...

Mum got wired up ECG done ,blood pressure, blood taken and canulla (sp) put in hand .We then went back in waiting room to wait for DR.

Next stage was the injection again wired up for and ECG going for the whole time and very well monitored.

Back into waiting area again to have the food that I did not bring but vending machine outside!

Then the scan which was about 1 hour later...I think you have to wait alt least 40 mins + for the injection to do what it is suppose to do . (said there was a lot of waiting involved !)

Wired up again for the scan (the sticky things are kept on from the start ..so it is just attaching the wires/leads).

Scan and ECG to music of your choice
I am smiling now because they ask mum what music she liked...she was getting a bit flustered now but said Tina Turner...Simply the best.

I burst out laughing and said how was she going to lie still listening to that ...she always bops around to it !!! We settled on a bit of classical and whale music!!

I stayed with her in the room the whole time and she had a dribbely snooze!

We then waited again for them to check the images which were good so no 2nd appointment.

No treadmill, but then I suppose it depends what you are getting tested/checked for .

Mum is 74 so we did not question the young children bit,so can't help you there sorry. and I obviously look far to old for even pregnancy to be querried !! Grin

We were there well over 3 hours ..nearly 4 but it went ok and smoothly.

Mum coped really well with the tea/coffee thing. She planned her few days in advance so she avoided being in a situation where t/c was on offer ..Ie she became a recluse and did not meet her friend for shopping and stuff.!!

Her first cup of tea after was funny though! We had one before leaving the hospital and "it went straight to her head" !! It is the only way to describe it .It was as if she had had quite a few glasses of wine !

It was half relief that it was all over and a massive tea high !!

She came home and I made her another cup of tea and the she had a lie down for a bit ,but that was her at 74 and finds all DR's appointments overwhelming as she does not always listen understand what is going on.

Ask me more if there is something else that I have not said .

hi sorry for late reply ..my boys took over the laptop !
Mum had the treadmill thing some years back but I was not with her then. Only started looking after them properly 4 years ago .(mum and dad)
Mum had this appointment due to yet another 999 trip to A+Eand got refered.

Angina had already been diagnosed.but her results showed it was "small/mycro veins that was causing her problem as oppsed to big artery/vein thing/

Results were 6 weeks//

Flush it out ... I did not ask her !! (no conversation about it ,,,so must have been ok !)

please remember that my mum is 74 which might change things a bit .

Just remember that it is good that they are doing all this for you x

The treadmill there are different protocols, most used is called bruce, less used is balke.

If they use bruce both the speed of the treadmill and the slope are increased every 3 minuites.

If balke, once you get to a brisk walk the slope increases the speed doesn't.
