Gum infection - any dentists here?

My 8yr old dd has a mild gum infection. Her dentist prescribed amoxicillin
but said to hold on to it and not give it to her yet. He said try rinsing with warm salt water for a week and if the infection doesn't go away then antibiotics. Will rinsing with warm salt water get rid of the infection completely? I am reluctant to give antibiotics. Thanks.

I don't know if you can use oraldine mouth wash I would contact pharmacy but salt water should clean out the infection and tighten the gum.

Thanks, pipsqueakz.

Who else had gum infections before? Are antibiotics necessary or can gum infections be cleared by home remedies?

Depends how servere the gum disease is. I would use salt water as advised. Mouths do heal v quickly. I've had infection back in December it was horrible worst was on our wedding day my tooth had snapped had horrible infection had to call NHS direct they put me on strong antibiotics 3000mg every 24hrs for five days they advised corsodil mouth wash for me.

Thanks, pipsqueakz. She's rinsing with salt water and I'll see how it goes. It seems slightly less inflamed now.
