Sorry to be bearing bad news but my Onc has told me I have a limited time due to things quickly changing and growing faster than anticipated along with the having chemo that didn't do anything but make me very ill.

I have been in a very nice new hospice for the last 3 weeks but am now home. Here's where you come in, I have a couple of months at best and I
need some nice songs I want a humanist ceremony so no religious ones please. Again sorry to ask x

I am so sorry to see your news, I hope you are pain free and comfortable for now, at my mums we had " you raise me up " it's sung by westlife. Who is your favourite singer ?

Hi earth I am so sorry to read your diagnosis. I can't think of anything I can say that doesn't sound silly or cliched so I will just give you some Thanks and Brew and an unMN ((hug))

What sort of songs were you thinking? Something uplifting? Or something more subdued? What type of music do you listen to?

EarthMotherImNot · 23/08/2013 22:45

I hope there's wine in that mug
Wink Seriously. thank you. I'm a bit of a slush bucket with music. I like Westlife also Kenny Rogers and Eva Cassidy. My favourite flowers are freesia and someone suggested a flower in every order of service. Is that too twee?

My fave flower is also freesia, i think that's a lovely idea Smile

What would you like the music to say? Is it describing you as a person? Do you want to say something to others? Or just have your favourite music played?

Isabeller · 23/08/2013 22:52

I think a flower in the order of service sounds like a lovely idea. Flowers

Kenny Rogers is my favourite singer ever and I have an inappropriate crush on him

Off the top of my head - Someone Somewhere Tonight is beautiful but has a line about praying. You decorated my life, or Through The Years are lovely too.

Don't you usually drink wine out of a mug? Grin Have aWine instead then.

I'm sorry to hear your news. I hope you are comfortable and pain free at the moment.

Fields of gold is quite beautiful. Is that appropriate? Or do you want something more upbeat?

Mintyy · 23/08/2013 22:55

I think you should have freesias everywhere! They are beautiful.

I love the song Morning Has Broken, although it might have slightly too religious overtones for you?

I'm hopeless on music but I do keep meaning to look up a piece played at lady di's funeral, possibly most suited for a cathedral and choir but it was very stirring and sad, I thought very appropriate for someone dying far too soon, not specifically religious but classical. For something more recent it's hard to beat elbow beautiful day.

Maybe repost this with a more obvious title?

I love morning has broken and I'll go google someone somewhere tonight as well as the others. I'm not totally against hymn/non religeous songs but my lot are keen on a humanist service and also want something more in keeping with my non-beliefs. x

I'm so sorry to hear your news Sad

This is a bit obscure, but the words are lovely - and personally I think it's fabulous music Elvis Costello & The Brodsky Quartet - The Birds Will Still Be Singing

Ah, love. What a shitter.
Anyhoo, are there any songs that make you think of a specific point in your life? Wedding, graduation, dancing your ass off with inappropriate men?
Personally, I've always thought Together in Electric Dreams is my perfect funeral song, because the music's brilliant and the words are so nice.
Think of the songs that are 'you'. That's what people will want to remember.
Oh, and Wine, lots of. X

I've just got a lump in my throat seeing this. I recognise your name EarthMother and am so sorry and sad to hear that you, one of life's really good people who has done so so much for others, is in this situation.

I think what you've done with your life is awe-inspiring. All these tiny helpless little people that you've loved and cared for.

I hope you feel so proud for what you've given to so many people xxx

I like songbird by oasis. And your song by elation John but don't know if they would suit the mood.

Sending you all my warmest wishes tonight. I have tears in my eyes and a dull ache in my heart.

I am so sorry to read your news, EarthMother. Not fair.

She's Like The Wind

Right Here Waiting for You - Richard Marx

Both cheesy but my favourite is perplexed suggestion of Together in Electric Dreams, perfect.
