Tell me what's happening with these nits?

On Friday evening I found a nit....I was scratching and found it squished in my nail
I wet combed with a bit of conditioner and found nothing
On Saturday am I wet combed with tonnes of conditioner (in the bath) and I found about 50 small slightly stripy (translucent and brownish) things about the size of a very small grain of rice with a slightly pointy bum - what were these? eggs/baby lice/something else?

Tonite I wet combed with tonnes of conditioner and got nothing

Do I need to wet comb again? am I clear?

Those sound like eggs to me, Katymac. I would keep going with the combing, TBH. Also it might be worth buying a battery powered nit-zapping comb, you can get them online or at Boots. The comb will make a high pitched noise if it finds any lice as you comb and will zap them for you.

Sounds like baby lice to me.

Keep wet combing to catch them as they hatch. Every 3 days should be sufficient if you do a really thorough job. But it depends how much/how thick the hair is.

You need to wet comb with conditioner every 3 days until all eggs are hatched and all lice have grown large enough to be combed out, which takes at least 2 weeks, probably 3 as you will miss a few the first time. Keep going every 3 days until there are no more lice coming out when you comb.

It's not possible to get clear with one session. There will be unhatched eggs on your head and lice that are too tiny to catch yet. Sounds like your comb is pretty good if you are getting eggs out - the brown ones are the unhatched ones - but don't count on getting them all, continue for 2 to 3 weeks and you will break the cycle for sure.

The lice breathe through their skin, so if you slather on loads of conditioner they have to completely shut down and they just look like grains of rice.

If you really want to wipe the comb onto a tissue, then leave it to dry out, and examine with a magnifying glass. If they are lice rather than just eggs, they may start to uncurl and sprout legs ..

Try a nitty gritty comb - they are really good. Available on the internet or at some chemists. They mangle the lot.
