Syndol. Alternatives?

Hi,

I get a lot of back, neck and shoulder pain and related sick headaches.

On here a few years back I saw people who used syndol and swore by it. But they also said it had been discontinued. Had a google for it the other day and found it is available but it's outrageously expensive - 59.99 for 100 tabs or something like that. On Amazon they were selling something containing some of the active ingredients which reviews suggested did the same thing as syndol when taken with ibuprofen. Any advice?

My back is giving me major gyp at the moment and I've had a series of hideous headaches as a result. Tens machine eases back a bit but doesn't help with headaches

thanks

On another thread people are making their own Shock

I am smugly sitting on a stockpile the size of the EU butter mountain.

Paramol is another horse strength painkiller, but not sure it has the muscle relaxant woozy ingredient that makes syndol so fabulous.. Pretty good though, the chemist once told my Mum Paramol was the bollocks. That was I think before syndol came out though.

Thanks thebirds.

I tried my new tablets along with ibuprofen last night and it worked a treat! Slept like a log, didnt get woken up with discomfort as I usually do and best of all my back is aboout 50% better today even now the tablets have worn off. Brilliant Grin

Does anyone know if you can you buy Syndol in the USA? (Under a different name maybe). I've run out and am going there on holiday soon....

Ormirian my symptoms were very similar to yours and I often needed Syndol to relieve the pain. Have you discussed other options with your GP? Mine suggested trying a small dose of Amitriptyline. Have to say its been life changing - no headaches for several weeks now (and being pain free is a first in over 20 years). All the best Smile

Thanks follyfoot.

I have more or less given up with the GP when it comes to back pain. Get told to rest, exercise, take ibuprofen. Yeah, thanks I can work that out for myself Wink So I tried chiropractic, physio and a tens machine all of which worked to a certain extent but not for long. Also the physio and chiropratic cost too much!

Mmm I've tried all of those too - and as you say they work partly and/or only for a fixed time. Its exhausting isnt it, having such frequent pain. Amitriptyline does make me a bit dopey, but its like someone has flicked a switch and turned the pain off - if you havent tried it, might be worth mentioning to the doc?

Google the ingredients.
It's basically co-codamol with an antihistamine and some caffeine.
The antihistamine is sold on Amazon as 'Kirkland Sleep Aid'.
Get a pack and take one with a co-codamol. Just the same. Smile

I also googled it and saw these guys on a website called ondoorsteppharmacy.co.za, and they are the cheapest from my research for far. The packaging is a little bit different from what we are used to here in the UK. Within a few days, my tablets were delivered and what a relief!

I always said if I could take one thing on a desert island, I would take my Syndol! Sad really, but without them when I get a bad head I feel bad for days. (Anyone who swears by Syndol will know what I mean!) I broke out in a cold sweat when I heard they had been discontinued again last year. Now though, I dont care whether they come back or not because I have made my own! The one ingredient we cannot get here is the muscle relaxant doxylamine succinate. However, it is sold in USA as a product called Sleep Aid by Kirkland. The dosage in these tabs is much higher. They are about £13. They come in two bottles of 96 tabs. I cut each of these tabs into 4 and take with 2 Solpadeine Plus capsules. Its brilliant. They will last for years! Just the same as Syndol and my headache is gone within the hour. Hope this helps anyone desperate for their return.

Hi guys!

I've been looking for Syndol for ages because they were the only pain killers that were able to numb my migraine and knock me out too.

I found this list of alternatives from a tweet after searching #syndol: blog.thehealthcounter.com/2014/04/syndol-is-gone-but-there-are-alternatives/

These products look like they might work just as well! I wanted to share the great news! :)

Syndol is definitely not coming back, and it looks like people are making fake Syndol. I think it's time we all moved on and found products that are 100% legit.

Hope this helps!

hi,i have suffered with migraine for many years !!! after reading your message I have sent for some of the Kirkland sleep aid , and will certainly try your method of taking them ie 1/4 with Solpadine. Just wondered if anyone who has tried taking the Kirkland sleep aid each night ,to aid sleep has noticed any improvement in their migraines . I thought of taking 1/2 each evening to see if I found any improvement .

The alternatives recommended on some of those sites might work but are not the same. The Kirkland Sleep Aid (doxylamine) is higher strength than in Syndol so half a tablet combined with a Co-Codamol 8/500 is probably the nearest you'll get

I've had a stinking migraine that's only just lifted this evening - god I miss Syndol. I'd forgotten how good the stuff was. Will be getting some Kirkland Sleep Aid in I think.

Solpadine Plus is the only thing I've found that's anywhere near as good as Syndol. A couple of those and a can of Coke (only drink the stuff when I have a migraine or a hangover) works pretty well.

Hi Guys!

I've already shared this in another thread, but basically, since I last posted in April, I've been following The Healthcounter (the place where I found that blog) and they've just posted on their facebook that they're getting Syndol back in stock!!!!

It looks like they've changed the packaging a bit, but I don't care as long as I get my Syndol!!!

I'll let you know when they announce they officially have it back Grin
