Hi! Hopefully, someone can help me. Yesterday my tooth was removed. Prior to the tooth being removed the dentist told me, as he was injecting me with local anesthetic that there was A lot of drainage. At the time i did not have a abscess it was just a painful tooth. After the tooth was removed, when I got home my face swelled up and I have been in pain since. All I can feel is pain from my ear radiating down to the front teeth. Is this common for an extraction? Btw this is not a first extraction for me I had several in the end of Feb. this extraction is causing sooooo much agony. Iam on amoxicillin and he prescribed Ibuprofen 800. Which is not helping me..... I hope you guys can help! Thank you!

Best regards ;)

hey you could always try Co-codomol (spelling is probably slightly wrong) its got codeine in it which is strong stuff. Or alternate between parecetomol for the pain and the ibruprofen for swelling. 2 parecetomol then 2hrs later 2 ibruprofen and so on.
its probably best asking your pharmacist which tablets are safe to take whilst you are taking amoxicillin etc

Hope the pain goes soon!

Cant add to Babystone good advice but bumping in case other experts around .

I think you absolutely must go back to dentist or ring an out of hours number . And actually if it were me I think I'd go to A & E .

Good luck .

I had a dry socket after a dental extraction before and it was agony for days. I went back to the dentist twice. The first time it was packed with some sort of anaesthetic. The second time I was given antibiotics (which I know you have).

Phone them tomorrow.

Hi thought id give you a update. Yesterday, I went to the dentist and he referred me to the oral surgeon. The oral surgeon did a I and D (incision and drainage) procedure. I saw stars, moons, planets. It is painful!!!! He told me I had a partial dry socket and an infection. I was left with something sticking out of the gum to drain it. I go tomorrow to remove it. Today Iam in pain but not like yesterday. I'm currently on Vicodin and clindamycin. I can't wait to go back to the normal life ;(

Poor you. Dental pain is just so all consuming. My three ds's were all born by c/s and the pain post section was a mere itch compared to my dry socket.

Hope you are sorted soon.
