How did you quit?

NRT
Champix/Zyban
Gradual Reduction
Cold Turkey/Willpower
Other - hypnosis/acupuncture etc

I'll be back in a few hours Smile

TIA

Oh, in case it matters, I want to know if Joel Spitzer (Why Quit) is correct about most smokers quitting cold turkey. I don't have many ex-smokers in real life to ask.

Read Alan Carr's 'Easy Way to Stop Smoking'. Gave up the day I finished reading.

Went cold turkey.

Good luck!

Champix from 20 a day - off them 7 mths now and can honestly say the whole thought of lighting up makes me want to heave...

Mind you I did pack in using will power alone during my pgs - the problem was I told myself I could smoke again once the babies were weaned - and I did Hmm

Cold turkey after reading Alan Carr book.

Been about ten years now and fallen off the wagon a handful of times but never reverted back to being a proper smoker again - a puff when wasted.

Pg again at the mo and the smell of smoke and smokers makes me retch!

Cold turkey (but it took quite a few attempts)

The first time I stopped lasted about 6 months. I used patches, and although I reduced the strength over time I did not stop using them (I had the most amazing vivid dreams when I slept with patches). The second time I stopped was when I was pregnant. I lost the craving to smoke completely, so no will power was required at all.
That was 7 years ago, and I have had the odd fag when drunk, but I have no real desire to start again.

Champix which sent me loopy but got me off the fags which is what i wanted!

Quit new years day 2012 and found out I was pregnant soon after so far haven't succumbed to smoking - tbh feel a lot better for it. But I also smoked roll ups which I think made it easier to quit used to smoke quite a bit too!

Nicotine chewing gum for about a month, then normal chewing gum for another month.

Been about 9 years now. Was on 20+ a day.

Cold turkey BUT wholly motivated by the diagnosis of MS, at which point I reasoned my body had enough to contend with without smoking too..
That was eight years ago, but I admit to an odd lapse in the first couple of years.
These days I don't even enjoy the smell whereas initially I did.

I too went cold turkey after reading the Alan Carr book, 10 years ago and find it hard to believe now that I was ever a smoker.

Cold turkey.

Still miss it though, even dream about smoking. I loved it Sad

I read Allan Carr as well, and quit cold turkey. I haven't touched a cig in 9 months. It's absolutely the best decision I've ever made! I can't even begin to describe how much better my quality of life is without being addicted to nicotine. Good luck!

Cold turkey.
But the stress of SATS week and various other work related factors have put me back on slippery slope this week. Smoked one after lunch with colleagues every day this week Sad

Going to read WhyQuit this evening. I have found it very helpful in the past.

Cold turkey. I'd met my DH who didn't smoke and moved back to the UK and couldn't comprehend spending that amount of money on such a pointless activity.
