Hello mumsnet!
This is my first time on & need advice but couldn't think of anywhere else I could get the advice I need.
I'm still feeding my 12month old morning & bedtime. I need a suntan as we are going to a wedding abroad & arrive 24hrs before the ceremony but am concerned about the health implications. What is the lesser of two evils: sunbed & risk skin cancer (I'm covered in moles) or spray tan & the chemicals get into my breast milk? There was an article in the guardian a few months ago about scandinavian research showing all the junk like lead in paints & fire retardants from furniture are stored in breast tissue & passed to an infant when feeding.
Can anyone help advise me?
Jennie

Do you not think your health and your babies is more important than looking brown for a day? Confused Have never heard of anyone needing a suntan. Sorry.

Ooh I didn't realise mumsnet would be so judgmental! I was looking for fact based advice from professionals. Apology accepted though.

Will the chemicals get into your milk, assume you can cover your nipples/aerola so that the spray tan doesnt go on them.

How much of tge tan will soak into your skin enough to enter the blood stream and then affect your breast milk?

Surely a one off spray tan wont affect your milk loads? but i dont know. Interesting question!

Here you go. There is a bit on here from kellymom that says spray tan is fine.

The concensus on a quick.google says spray tan is fine when bfeeding :)

Thank you for the link & taking the time to reply. I was so disheartened by the judgmental response I first got. I've never been on a forum before & I'm not a facebooker so was a bit freaked out! Thank you again.xx

Thank you! It made me laugh. I needed it after that first response I got. I notice no one has advised the sun bed route! Xx

I got spray tans when I was feeding, asked GP and they said it was totally fine. (Just remember to wipe it off your boobs a bit as well as the nips or you get a baby with a wee brown mouth chin and nose Shock)
