i never post on the health board but getting a bit desperate today . for the last 8 weeks i have had what feels like something stuck in my throat and for the last 3 weeks a horrible uncomfortable pain in the middle of my chest , varying in severity.

i have had the throat problem before a few years ago and was put on lansoprazole , told that it could be acid reflux, i have stayed on them ever since because whenever i stop, the pit of my stomach burns .
i always wondered if the throat thing was anxiety as i have heard of that and i started on cipralex at the same time so never really knew which it was.

ive had indigestion loads since being a teenager and this pain in my chest feels nothing like it . it feels a bit like something is stuck there aswell but its really horrible and its getting worse . have tried gaviscon to no avail and it doesnt seem to come and go with eating . feels like ive been punched in the chest .

i had an appointment last week at ent for something else and asked about it , the doctor was horrible and basically ,made me feel like i was imagining it (im defo not ) but i admit i am anxious again . in the end she looked at my throat and said she'd send me for a swallow test . she didnt really listen to me though i dont think . i dont think that anything is ACTUALLY stuck but just that it feels that way , i can actually swallow ok.

i have lost a load of weight because i dont feel like eating with this and today it feels worse .
any advice for me please ?

This really does sound like it's an acid reflux/indigestion type thing. I frequently get the chest pain symptom (I have a hiatus hernia) and it's worse when I'm feeling anxious. I find lots of liquid gaviscon (not the tablets) helps to relieve the feeling.

Have you heard of Gerd? (unintentional poem!) I can't remember exactly what it stands for, but it is a gastro reflux problem which leads to that 'lump in the throat' sensation. Try googling it. My husband was diagnosed with this having been convinced he had some form of cancer in his throat!
He became quite anxious which made the feeling worse, but was put on some sort of antacid which more or less sorted everything out.

Hope you start to feel a little better soon - it's a horrid sensation (both the chest pain and the lump in the throat feeling), but as I say both DH and I have successfully been treated for these symptoms. Anxiety definitely makes it all worse.

thanks , yes , have heard of gerd. i cant understand why ive got this though as i am already on the acid blocking tablets , have had omeprazole and lansoprazole . i had some gaviscon earlier and there was no difference to my chest.
im not so worried about my throat as i have had that before and there was nothing actually wrong with the throat itself but this chest pain is freaking me out as ive never had anything that feels like it before .
sometimes breathing in or moving around makes it worse but not everytime Confused

Maybe a chest x-ray is in order?

Just make sure you get some light anaesthesia, and you won't feel a thing.

I'va had this lump in the throat and chest pain, but was always heartburn/indigestion, and did not last longer than a few days.
Mine always happens when I get into bed.
I try not to eat late. Once it was terrible after eating crisps before going to bed at night so never did that again.

As you have had it so long, further investigations are necessary.
Good luck.

Doctor may have referred to a Barium swallow when they said swallow test, which helps with imaging the area in question, I think.
Deffo have it checked out and mention your significant weight loss, too.
