weight gain on amytripaline... anyone else?

I have been put on amytripaline on addition to diclofenic and tramadol to help manage fibromyalgia and teitzes. Now, my symptoms are definitely more managable (not great, but better) BUT I am anorexic. I maintain a decent weight and bmi, but have frequent spirals. I've just had a severe one. I can normally get my weight back up slowly, but I have (for me) ballooned. I've put a lot on (more than I do normally) very, VERY quickly. I'm not even eating much more than I did at easter, and no crisps/sweets/chocolate, but I can't stop this weight gain. Its really distressing me and making me paranoid and anxious.

Did anyone else gain weight on this (last week I started taking 2 a night as prescribed) and is there any way to manage it?

When I went from 10mg to 20mg my weight went up but it did make me more hungry so I ate more.

I'm now up to 30mg but am exercising 5 times a week so I'm not gaining any more but I'm still very hungry.

My friend did put weight on whilst on amitriptyline, but for her it was to treat depression and prior to going on the amitriptyline she hadn't been eating much as she had no appetite and she had lost weight.

Once her mood had come up she began to enjoy her food again, and tbh she doesn't have a very good diet so whilst I think the amitriptyline does sometimes make you more prone to gaining weight (I think it makes you hungrier and does something to your metabolism), she probably wouldn't have put on so much weight if she'd not eaten so much chocolate. She does diet sometimes and is able to lose some weight - but the love of chocolate tends to win.

I find this interesting DS 14 cerebral palsy is having 25mgs of Amitriptyline x 2 a day for pain. He has been taking it for over a year and we have noticed he has become quite "lardy" As he is tube fed and has under 1000 calories /day it cannot be diet so we are assuming it is the Amitriptyline

I'm on amitryptaline 150 mg for pain and sleep problems and yes, I've gained weight since I was on it. I find exercising hard due to a neuro problem, but tbh I'd rather have the weight gain than the pain!

Yes I too have gained weight (never a problem in the past) despite a very low dose (10mg) for neuropathic pain that made sleep impossible. I am however more well and able, and sleeping better than I was pre ami so I would rather be a little podgy but relatively able than back where I was and skinny! I hope to come off it once/if my body is behaving less abismally! I did not notice at first, just thought it was deconditioning from not being able to exersize and walk. Since noticing the weight gain I have started to watch what I eat and have kept my weight stable.

Thank you all, I'm glad its not just me. Tbh, I can grit my teeth, call my EDT and ride this out, if its a toss up between sleep/pain and weight, its a no brainer and its made enough of a difference for me to accept it, as long as I know that its not ME, iykwim.
