Sinusitis - I feel utterly sh*t, is this right?!

I am pretty sure I have sinusitis. I feel utterly dreadful - constant headache all round, can't dip my head at all, ears and all nasal passages blocked and coughing up disgusting gunge.

(Before you say - i am going to the GP tomorrow!)

But really, I am absolutely wiped, lethargic and feel really quite completely crap.

Is this normal, or might it be something more than sinusitis?! Been building up since last Wednesday. I assumed it would pass by the weekend, but it's getting worse if anything.... almost don't know what to do with myself!

Poor you Hmm

If you do have sinusitis, you have an infection and infections make you feel like shite

You might get ABs from GP which will hopefully help you start to feel better

Fwiw when I had sinusitis recently I felt like I wanted to decapitate myself

Not just me then. Decpitate is about where I am at. I am pacing around, just to distract myself from the pain and discomfort. Painkillers haven't touched it.

I had no idea that blocked/infected sinuses could hurt this much! I feel pathetic, but I simply have no strength to do anything.....Hoping GP says it is one that AB's can help, fingers crossed!

It's horrendous I agree

Do you have an AB-happy GP? Or one that likes to avoid at all costs?

I am pretty sure my GP will prescribe AB's. I don't take them often, so when I need them, they normally give them without any major issue.

If they DID say "try steam and paracetamol" or similar, I will punch them fast and hard in the mood I'm in!

Thanks all. Smile

Poor you! I get it every winter without fail! ABs, lashings of sudafed, a steam humidifier (put it by the side of your bed when you go to sleep so your head is in steam all night), and one of those wheat bag things you can put in the microwave on your face.

And god's speed! WineBrewThanks

I had this twice last year. I thought someone was trying to screw something into my forehead.

Steam does ease the pain for a bit. The best pain relief I found was cocodamol (sp?). Hope you get ABs at GPs!

Oh, for extra joy I'm allergic to antibiotics Angry

I've gone for lemsip, surdafed, steam and self-pity.

Seriously. Wheat bag thing in microwave. On face. Melts, numbs, all good.

Otrivine Sinusitis spray (purple box) is ace, sniff it but then either tilt your head over the end of a bed or lie on the side sniffed for a couple of minutes so the spray doesn't just shoot down your throat.

Hope you get relief soon, it is awful.

Remove your head. It hurts too much.

You can buy crystal menthol ( not meths - don't get them confused) from the chemist and 2 tiny pieces in a hot bowl with a towel over your head will ease the pain for a while.

I missed getting a GP appt! Phoned two minutes too late!!

However, I did get Otrivine purple box (thanks Mamf74) and have been sticking with paracetomol/nurofen alternating and despite a bit of a relapse mid afternoon am generally feeling MUCH better. Have managed to get a few things done today at least....

Thanks all for the tea and sympathy. At least I know that how I feel is not unusual....

I have chronic sinusitis Hmm. It came all of a sudden at Christmas 2011 with a massive headache that had me believing I had an aneurism that had ruptured (my mum had one) and lucky me, it's never left!

I've had lots of antibiotics and none have worked. My GP said they don't work for everyone.

I have a constant headache and all the horrid gunk that comes with it and I'm bloody depressed.

I really hope you're one of the lucky ones OP!
